. The immigrants take jobs from the rich and the rich then live in squalor surrounded by stacks of money.
You know how bums sleep covered in newspapers to keep warm? That's what the homeless rich do with their cash. They also burn little piles of it for warmth, poor things. And they light up a joint with a rolled up $100 bill. Sad.
I attended the Seattle World's Fair way back when, in 1962, when I was in my teens. I remember taking the monorail from the fairgrounds to downtown Seattle and back, and being shocked by the large number of ragged, dirty derelict men lying and sitting on the public sidewalks. I had never seen so many in one place before.
I was later told I'd seen "Skid Row", the name deriving from the timber industry of the 19th century.
So derelicts are nothing new in Seattle, although it sounds like their numbers have increased. I expect drug addiction plus the closing of mental facilities and the end of most involuntary commitment are major factors these days - it would have been alcohol, most likely, back in 1962.
The west coast is a big draw for the itinerant homeless/hopeless - it's the jumping-off place; the end of the continent.
The end of the road, for many...
This is a problem even in cold Alaska. Alaska is a Republican state. Anchorage, the largest city in Alaska, is not some liberal bastion. It has had several Republican mayors through the past 40 years. There are still many issues with homelessness, alcohol, and drugs. Anchorage is #1 in America for rape too.
Just please let the lefties stay in the big cities and quit escaping to our states and then trying to make our states, the dumps they just fled.
You can't do that. Unconstitutional. Anyone can move anywhere they want. And there are plenty of places run by the right wing that were dumpy in the first place. We can start with many places in Appalachia.

Same experience here while on leave from the Navy. I could not believe what I was seeing and thought it was a temporary condition occasioned by the fair itself. Over the years however, I came to understand it was indeed a permanent part of the picture.

Since we are hell bent on removing the 2nd, which other ones do we need to nuke.
I see many places more accepting of beggars. They don't kick them out of private businesses, parking lots and gas stations. I have been aggressively pursued at a gas station, and it was scary but the clerk did nothing. When I was a teen we used to get told to leave businesses if we hung around even after buying something. But beggars get to stay and harass customers now? That is the problem, acceptance and normalization of things which are not normal in a decent, functional society.
If it happens again I am going to turn my cell camera on and make an issue of it.
While in Seattle it may be the County Courthouse -- other cities have other places.
It isn't a left or right problem...it's an urban problem.
