The apple doesn't fall too far from the tree. Kid has his own issues and dad is trying for a second 15 minutes of fame. Neither one is too bright.
So you're OK with expelling a kid for what a parent does?
Even if that something is completely legal?
How about this scenario:
Liberal parent with a kid in a private school with a conservative principal uses his kid as a prop in an anti conservative rant on YouTube.....the Conservative principal expells the kid. ..
It seems this is also a result of zero tolerance policies gone nuts. Yes, he was expelled for having a knife, but unless I'm not seeing something, it was ONLY because he possessed it. The knife was just a standard pocketknife, that he didn't threaten ANYONE with. The proper procedure should have been "oops, I accidentally brought this, let me take this to the office to hold for my parents to pick up later." and that be the end of it. In fact, back in middle school, I remember a clause in the rules that explicitly allowed that. Under zero tolerance he had two and only two choices, hide it and hope it makes it home, or turn it in and get suspended anyways. I bring this up, because so many people on here are trying to say "LOOK HOW DANGEROUS HE IS! HE GOT EXPELLED!" without considering the totality of the circumstances.
Nobody said they couldn't still GO to the gun range.
I liken this to teachers not going to bars, getting hammered, then posting photos of themselves letting strange men do Jell-O shots off their stomachs during Spring Break.
This is also not illegal and there's no reason a teacher cannot do what they want with their free time, but posting it on social media would surely be ill advised.
What the heck does it matter to the school what they do outside of school? Are they now in charge of you when you're not at school too?
Maybe the average American should learn something about these inaminate objects that can be used for things good and bad before they scream: "Ewww!!! Scary Evil Naughty!!!" and demand their government immediately take away their legal right to own one...

Some of them try. Here they tried to claim they owned the bus stops. The stops are on random corners of city streets. But this is not new. When I was in high school 50 years ago, the school district decided that only seniors could drive to school. I worked and bought a car my freshman year. I drove and parked two blocks from the school. They threatened to tow my car. My father explained to them that he would file theft charges if they touched it. The police chief backed us up.
