The thing is, the child was dying. I'm sure if he could have been taken home, to quietly die without pain, it would have been allowed.
Wow, the courts would have "allowed" the parents to remove their own child from a hospital that wanted him dead ASAP! How terribly generous of them ....
Hopefully they get permission to give their child a funeral, or do they have to go to court and ask a bunch of people in white carpets wigs if it’s ok?
'Determined that this life was not worth saving'. What are you talking about? The boy was effectively dead, with his body kept alive by machines. His brain was destroyed, with no hope of any sort of recovery at all. In fact, he was having fits and seizures.
I don't understand your argument. Alfie couldn't survive, and live any sort of life at all. It was time to end his, and his parents agony.
My aunt was alive, and conscious. It is a totally different thing. Yes, we all pay into the system, which finances the NHS. I don't begrudge it one penny of mine, and millions of other folk's taxes.
He may have been effectively dead or he may have been in agony. He could not have been both.

Oh gawd......... The hospital didn't want Alfie dead. He has been languishing there for a long time. There was no treatment left to give. The child was brain dead.
No, they won't have to ask anyone in a white carpet wig for permission to bury their child. This thread is becoming ridiculous.
TRY READING IT PROPERLY!! That hurt my throat.........
It has been repeatedly pointed out here that Alfie is not the property of his parents.
Of course he's not .... he's the property of the NHS and Court of Great Britain. If you attempt to defy the property owners, you get placed under arrest.
Socialized medicine .... glad some enjoy it. Just don't bring it here.
The NHS had kept this baby alive for a long time. Private health insurance would have pulled the plug long ago.
You forget one major difference .... even if the alleged private health insurance had pulled the plug, they would not then going whining to the court if the parents decided to go elsewhere to attempt to save their child utilizing their own resources.
So, you'd prefer to let the insurance companies' bean counters make lie/death decisions for you?
Has any insurance company ever posted 30 armed guards outside a hospital to keep a foreign citizen child hostage and prevent them from seeking treatment elsewhere using resources the insurance company won't have to cover, while telling that person's parents their decision is based partly on their bad attitude toward the insurance company?
If and when that ever happens, maybe you'll have a point. Until then, you'll need to make peace that this is what you and other single-payer fans are advocating be brought to our country.
