Yeah, I cannot think of another time when so many people seem to actually like complete and total surveillance! Im constantly amazed how much liberty people are willing to give up if they think it makes them a little bit safer. LOL
Really I think these people would be happier living under a strict dictatorship or a monarchy.
Wow, that's interesting, Live PD is like Facebook, it allows people to be jackasses publicly and everyone to see it. People should always think as though they are being recorded in every interaction with the police. Cops now usually have body cameras and/or microphones to record every word said. One should always presume you are being recorded, and I'm in favor of it. No more He Said/She Said, just roll the tape.
Not just with interactions with the police. College and other school campuses, downtown areas in a lot of cities, convenience as well as many other stores, casinos (well, that's been forever), highways, parks, etc. Not to mention the ability to track people's movements via cell signal. Then there are drones, both governmental and private.
I sometimes have an intellectual problem with some of the above.
It's a TV show; they aren't going to show the stops where they give them a verbal warning for rolling a stop sign, and let the go on about their night. That doesn't make good TV.
The OP point is valid.
I just heard a story yesterday from my old small town - which has a MASSIVE police force. Of course, it's very safe and almost nothing happens there, so hassling kids (teens) and those of color (you can't drive while black through that town) has been their way for many decades.
Anyway, our friends son was pulled over - bad tail light according to Police. Car was searched top to bottom - nothing found. Kid went home and checked - all tail lights work fine.
Let's not pretend that our LE is benign here. I've seen too much...way too much. I know moral people who joined and then had to leave because they just couldn't be part of it.

When my brother joined the local police, he was given a list of people he could not ticket. council members, business leaders, school admin, etc. I was listening to the police scanner recently, the Supt. of schools was pulled over for DUI. They called for someone to come drive him home. No ticket.

Well, you are 100% right - think of Trump voters. They seem to not care about morals, ethics, values, traditions and many legal matters...the only question is whether one can pay off or get away with things.
They don't care about Congress and actual law-making, rather they like "tweets" and "declarations" and "promises" from ONE MAN.
They are Authoritarians...which means they WOULD be happier living as you say. This is nothing new. The popularity of Putin in Russia or Xi in China FAR outstrips any US POTUS. Of course there are other factors involved, but a lot of people want "strong daddy" to protect them.

I normally don't like the idea of being recorded everywhere you go, but if you are a crime victim, or your family is, you are in favor of this surveillance.
However in large Chinese cities, they have taken it to the next level. They use facial recognition software to record the movements of people on busy streets, and I believe these cameras are focusing on your eyes, and recording this data, and matching it with your government issued ID. They can then mine this data later if they want to know your whereabouts in city streets or train/bus stations for later reference. The implications of such surveillance are myriad. We don't need anyone keeping a data base on our movements.

I wouldn't be surprised if LIVE:P.D. gets a 24 hour channel at some point. It's really a fascinating show, never 2 the same, and I think it also helps keep people honest. It's a very insightful look into the daily grind of being a L.E.O.
I think this type of show and its predecessor COPS shows just what type of society we've become. People watch others getting chased and arrested for entertainment.
Pretty sick if you ask me.
Keeps people honest? A little too Big Brother for my tastes...

We agree on something! Hurrah! Its always nice when that happens.
Sometimes I wonder if it keeps us safer or just gives us the illusion of safety.
Additionally, this type of entertainment smacks of Big Brother/Black Mirror level crap. Definitely not my thing.

Sad but true. My neck of the woods has many of the same issues you all have described. There have been rumors going around that members of the local PD were involved in a "suicide" of a credit union manager. The credit union had been under investigation for bank fraud due to a police officer getting a fraudulent loan through the institution. There were other issues but yeah...many people don't believe the suicide story.
