Well, you are 100% right - think of Trump voters. They seem to not care about morals, ethics, values, traditions and many legal matters...the only question is whether one can pay off or get away with things.
They don't care about Congress and actual law-making, rather they like "tweets" and "declarations" and "promises" from ONE MAN.
They are Authoritarians...which means they WOULD be happier living as you say. This is nothing new. The popularity of Putin in Russia or Xi in China FAR outstrips any US POTUS. Of course there are other factors involved, but a lot of people want "strong daddy" to protect them.
I've been watching Live PD for a few weeks and have noticed a couple of things that simply amaze me. Almost every time any cop on the show pulls over a car somehow they "claim" they smell dope and so deem they have Probable Cause to search. It's either that or they ask for permission and if denied they call out a K9 and direct them to search, even going as far as opening the doors and putting the K9 in the vehicle.
How is that not searching the car without warrant if they put the K9 police officerin the car?
The other thing that baffles me is how they have all the time with everything going on to stop everyone riding a bicycle for lack of lights at night or, just walking down the side of the street and demand ID and a search of their person "for their safety".
Anyone else think things are getting a tad out of hand when it comes to citizens rights?
Like some have said they are going to show the interesting encounters not the boring ones. In the defense of the cops the pull someone over and run them and the person has a record of drug possession charges they are going to find a way to search them. And likely they will find something.
I do agree they are crossing the line. However as long as the people who protest police abuse are only concerned with the relativity rare instance of a police officer killing an unarmed black person instead of the constant abuse of our civil liberties as the examples you indicated above this will continue.
I also watch Live PD and watched COPS for years. It does amaze me how so many people with warrants and or have crack or meth in their vehicle are driving around with expired tags or with a light out just basically begging to be pulled over. But I guess if you have one of those addictions good judgement is not one of your skills.
IMHO we need to change the laws and not put people in jail simply for having an addiction. Bust the dealers or people driving under the influence. But leave the addicts alone.
Not just with interactions with the police. College and other school campuses, downtown areas in a lot of cities, convenience as well as many other stores, casinos (well, that's been forever), highways, parks, etc. Not to mention the ability to track people's movements via cell signal. Then there are drones, both governmental and private.
I sometimes have an intellectual problem with some of the above.
Not just cell phones <bold> They can track via traffic cameras that are now placed on most every traffic light, any CCTV camera that's put up by the government (and there are many) and can get private CCTV footage whenever they want, cameras like ATM's,stores, parking lots etc etc etc.
Here in AZ there's certain counties where you can sign up with the PD if you have security cameras on your home/business so they know where your cameras are and can access your footage if something happens on/around your neighborhood.
In Fountain Hills AZ a couple of years ago they put cameras in phony Cacti at all the entrances to the city so they could record all the license plates that come and go. They said it was for "crime reduction", if someone committed a crime they could track them and identify them via these traffic cams. Let's also not forget all those red light and speed cameras, all the new license plate readers that are mounted on cop cars that are parked/driving around recording all they see. Of course they "say" they don't keep the footage but that new data storage building in Utah wasn't built for no reason...

Yes, but I know plenty of people who would say that is all a good thing, and bring up what if their kids were abducted, all those different types of surveillance could be used to bring them home faster and safer, or they would say it aids law enforcement in catching 'the bad guys' much faster....that seems to be the mentality today, Its ok to give up freedoms as long as its being done for safety or security.
I did see one cool/classy thing though. On Saturday the Pinal County Sheriff (not a deputy) pulled over a lady for tossing a cigarette butt out of her car. Explained to her that it's littering and then went on to explain that tossing anything from the car either organic (apple core or banana peel) or inorganic in AZ is littering and carries a large fine. I didn't know it was that strict in AZ. I know in CA the only thing that can be legally dropped on the roadway is clean hay/straw and clear water.
He chatted with her for a couple of minutes and let her off with the warning, not once saying "I smell pot may I search your vehicle"...

I wouldn't be surprised if LIVE:P.D. gets a 24 hour channel at some point. It's really a fascinating show, never 2 the same, and I think it also helps keep people honest. It's a very insightful look into the daily grind of being a L.E.O.
I wouldn't be surprised either. Cops is on almost all the time on one of the higher cable channels.
If you are feeling a little down about your life just turn an episode or two of Cops and you soon realize how good you have it.
