It will already be bad in states like NC. We have large pork business in the eastern part of the state. Mexico has already retaliated by announcing tariffs on those and many other products.

Think of this. Our allies who have stood by us since WWII, are being punished by Trump for no discernible reason. If this isn't cutting off your nose to spite your face nothing is.

These tariffs and the trade wars that are sure to follow will hit Trump's lower class voters hard, but we are all victims of his policies. We have become a lost nation.
Americans will be hit hard on the repercussions of these inane trade tariffs, however trumps gang of gullible simpletons will find a way to spin it so as not to be trumps fault and most likely lay the blame with Obama/Hillary/Liberals etc. Next up on the rightie hate list=Canada/Europe and Mexico.
This bonehead you now have as a leader is systematically destroying your country even if he is just a one term leader theres plenty of time for him to do irreparable damage to the country and the American way of life.
A good read on some of the consequences of trumps actions =https://www.vanityfair.com/news/2018...uminum-tariffs

Why is Trump so soft on China trade? The EU and North America are pikers compared to the Chinese when it comes to barriers to US goods. Trump got his tail handed to him with the China trade negotiations last week and did nothing about it.

Tariffs hurt Americans. It causes us to spend more money for one product and less for another. Anyone who thinks higher prices are a good thing is either an economic amatuer or works in the field being protected.

Simply excellent economic news today: unemployment rate down to 3.8 percent (or, using Mr. Trump's way of figuring it back when he was a candidate, around 25 percent now), wages up 2.7 percent, etc.

As I often say, I welcome good economic news at face value, regardless of whom is President. I have no problem, this deep into his first term, with giving some credit to Donald John Trump (not full credit, since he did inherit an excellent economy).

Of course, with us now in a tariff war, things may change, and not for the good. The US Chamber of Commerce estimates that with this tariff war the US may lose 2.6 million jobs:

Trump trade policies threaten 2.6 million US jobs, Chamber of Commerce says

I cannot link to it, but the Wall Street Journal editorial today blasted Mr. Trump for starting a trade war, with our closest allies.

Anyway, good news today, but what the situation will be by this time next year, unknown, but probably not as good.

So do high trade deficits and Government sponsored theft of intellectual property (China as an example). So what to do instead of tariffs if the offending countries won't deal? Say "pretty please" or just ignore the issues as has been done for decades? At what point do we say "enough"?

There may be some short term pain but I doubt these Governments that are now bitc#ing can afford to play the game for too long...

How do trade deficits cause us to spend more money?

The Canadian Aluminum industry thanks you for your $600M donation to date, and looks forward to continued high profits at the expense of the American people.

Canadian aluminum shows its mettle in face of Trump's tariff | CBC News

I'm not sure there's much IP theft on an ingot of aluminum though.
