Come Memorial Day and July 4th, I bet Amazon jumps on the patriotic bandwagon, going on about how much they love america, but they are trying to fight a $500 per employee tax..CMON, thats chump change to Amazon.
We have numerous Amazon distribution centers around here and they are terrible places to work, they have one of the highest employee turn over rates in the area,so much so, they are always taking out full page ads, trying to get applicants. You can tell alot about a company based on its employee turn over!

KG is right, as is frank below. that tax money is not going to paid by amazon, but rather its customers. and you can bet that shipping costs, along with prices, will increase substantially. and once it is found that the tax money goes to seattle, amazon may lose customers as a result.

This is what a lot of people don't seem to get. Corporations don't pay taxes, the consumer does. Raise taxes or other costs like increases in the minimum wage and Corporations have to increase the cost of their goods or services. Basic economics here.
well amazon can always come to arizona and set up a new warehouse if they wish, i certainly wont complain. hey bezos, come to tucson, we wont be taxing your company based on how many employees you have.
They won't come based on the quality of the school systems of Arizona!

One business is forced to cover these costs and raise prices while another gets out of them. That seem fair to you?
Housing in a desirable city like Seattle , L.A or NYC etc is never going to be affordable for everyone .
Also poor people are still living in these cities so how are they able to afford it ?
They live with a bunch of roommates or family that bought when prices were cheap .
Or they live outside the city and commute in .
It’s a nice idea that the fast food worker with 4 kids will be able to live within walking distance in an affordable place walking distance to work but it’s a fantasy .
People should live where it’s affordable which is much of America .
The liberal idiot Mayor of L.A also wants to build a bunch of “homeless housing “ it costs about $400,000 PER unit to build ! With over 50,000 homeless in L.A .. do the math .
—
“I’m deeply concerned about the impact this decision will have on a large range of jobs — from our building trades, to restaurant workers, to nurses, manufacturing jobs and tech workers,” said Mayor Jenny Durkan. “At the same time, our city must urgently address our homelessness and affordability crisis and lift up those who have been left behind.”
If everyone said "no" they still have to build somewhere. If I create a small business I still bring in money for the city. If you are demanding exclusions, it's hypocritical to complain when a tax hits you.

So they feel bad about the homeless, but may create more with this proposal. That sounds like a real winner.
Its amazing to me that state govt can pass any tax increase or any law for that matter and they think its citizens will just bend over and happily pay or follow it. Ca is having a little trouble with its new sanctuary city status and now shots fired by Amazon. I have a feeling this is going to end up in Amazons favor.
Isn't Microsoft there too? What do they say about this new tax?
Microsoft HQ is outside Seattle, in Redmond. It's predominantly Eastside (East of Lake WA) there are some buildings in downtown SEA, but you could evacuate them across the lake and have almost zero impact. GOOG and FBK are also present in Kirkredvue (Kirkland, Redmond and Bellevue). This tax only applies to the City of Seattle (which has always been too big for its britches, and thinks it's gods gift to Tech, but doesn't actually have that much compared to the rest of Western WA).
