Special counsel Robert Mueller on Thursday filed a request for 70 blank subpoenas in the Eastern District of Virginia, where former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort.
The two-page filing reveals little, but says that that each subpoena recipient must appear in the Alexandria, Va., courthouse on July 10 to testify in the case.
The actual headline says 70 but I corrected that because it's 35 sets.
Now the realistic odds of a trial going forward on the first date set aren't that high in my experience, but my practice was in state court. Maybe federal courts run a tighter docket and this will really start in July.
35 is not unreasonable given the number of charges, and how many witnesses from various financial institutions are involved. Manafort is in deep trouble. I'm not 100% sure he recognizes how much though. Like many more wealthy people who have violated the law and gotten away with it for so long, they feel like they are untouchable.
