That's funny. There was a discussion here about this a few months back. Some people in other parts of the country said they also use 'guy's' when addressing groups of both genders, but others found it offensive. To them, I say this: you guys need to lighten up!
In Pittsburgh, where I've done a tour of duty, they call a group of people "yinz".
Example: Are yinz goin' dahntahn after the Stillers game?
Translation: Are all of you going downtown after the Steelers game?

I say this all the time. I'm from MI originally. It may not be accurate but offensive? Come on! I'd say lighten up too.
Ditto for firefighter and police officer. Though I usually just say cop because it's shorter.
Do these people realize state statutes aren't medical documents, that if they leave the term policeman in there it's not going to cause a female officer actual harm? What a waste of the assembly's time.
There are and have been a number of firefighters and police officers/cops on one side of my family (all in California). The police officers/cops have always been referred to as such, and the only firefighter who was called a fireman rather than a firefighter was one of my uncles who was born in the 1920s, and retired over 35 years ago .
I'm fifty, and my parents were both volunteer emergency responders. The terminology has been firefighters and police officers as long as I can remember. It seems perfectly legitimate to codify the language at this point. Actually, I think it's long overdue.
Police officer yes. The other 2? Maybe firefighter on occasion. Mail person? Never, maybe as a joke.
I use the term mail carrier or postal worker, but it's not often that I refer specifically to that person by job title. I usually just say "Mail's here."
I'm busy tonight trimming my former lengthy pubic hairs, which certainly did not conceal my moderate size penis so as not to interfere with the view of any New Yorkers who want to see me in full exposure for whatever immoderate reason.
What ever.
Well, the Bears did beat the Steelers this past fall so I guess you're right.
I hadn't thought of that, but it makes perfect sense. Yeah, we did beat ya's!

We midwesterners are more than just pretty faces - we speak the King's English.
Be sure to add the 'you guys' though.
