It bothers conservatives who want to legally enforce a patriarchal society. That's why gender/sexual orientation issues are so frightening to conservatives.
Maybe Religiously conservative people like Muslims or Fundamentalist Christians, but having 105 different sexual identities to most normal people is how do you say? Ridiculous
That's funny. There was a discussion here about this a few months back. Some people in other parts of the country said they also use 'guy's' when addressing groups of both genders, but others found it offensive. To them, I say this: you guys need to lighten up!
I grew up in Ohio, and "you guys" was common, but it's not something I say today. Somewhere along the line I picked up "people" as in, "People, let's go!" which I usually say when I've grown impatient with my young adult children. My husband occasionally says, "You all," which is distinct from "Y'all." My youngest son says, "All y'all" to be funny, a phrase he picked up from a southern-born friend. I'm not sure what my other kids say. I'll have to ask them next time I see them. I believe my daughter says "people" like I do, which I may actually have learned from her, come to think of it.

I have never understood the hullaballoo some conservatives throw over this. Unless you are chest-deep in LGBTQ culture, there's really no reason even to address the sexuality or gender-identity of another person. And if you find yourself corrected by someone who does not identify the way you expect, just smile and repeat whatever pronoun they give you without making a fuss, and then go about with your day. Don't roll your eyes, don't grimace, don't criticize, and certainly don't lecture. Maintain your dignity and theirs and then just move on. It's really that simple.

My other go-to phrase is 'folks'. And about a hundred other old-fashioned phrases...lol.

I grew up in Ohio too. We said "you guys".
Northeast Ohio I should say. Southern Ohio is a whole different world.
I agree liberals are often insane, but this is just a big "meh" for me. Let NY do what they want with that.
That said, the Navy tried to go PC a while back, and clumsily change all of their official enlisted designations to gender neutral conventions. But the concerted pushback, a lot from female service members, made them rescind the decision. Many women in the Navy cheered the decision to rescind it They liked the historical aspect of it.

Lol. You proggies crack me up when you these weak attempts to sound reasonable.
"I need to correct you. I'm a woman.(never mind my penis....)"

Honey, I'm as straight as an arrow and a middle-aged suburban housewife in a conservative district. I just don't see the point in creating a fuss over something like this. Maintain your dignity and just move on. You're not going to win an argument with someone whose life view is so different from your own. It's wasted effort and just leads to frustration on all sides. It's no skin off my nose or yours to let it go.
