If you believe that Dershowitz is representing the Defendant in order to make lots of money or to "get the defendant off the hook" for the charges, then you are merely demonstrating your ignorance of American (US) jurisprudence.
The primary purpose of a criminal trial in the US is to force the State to prove the veracity of its accusation/s beyond a reasonable doubt.
This is because our founding fathers did not trust men and or governments to always play fair.
As the defendant's counsel, the attorney (in this case, Dershowitz), is there to make sure that the State does not run roughshod over the defendant's rights, which are protected by our Constitution, and to make certain that the State proves the veracity of its accusation/s brought against the defendant beyond a reasonable doubt.
You should be very thankful that we have attorneys willing to do this type of work.
I agree with you, but the problem today is, many many people do not, they would be quite happy to see people like Weinstein executed with NO trial or conviction, all it takes to convince them is an accusation! Ive said it before, there are many americans today that would be happier living under a brutal dictatorship or monarchy, they side with Govt/ courts/ law enforcement instead of their fellow citizen...Its crazy!

And yet people went INSANE over Hillary representing an accused rapist. It was discussed incessantly on this forum.
They couldn't have cared less about the constitution. And she was a young, no-name attorney (unlike Dershowitz) who was told to take the case.
As Dershowitz has shown that he is a strong defender of due process and the Constitution, I welcome this move. Regardless of what I may think of someone (and it appears that Weinstein is a dirt bag), the state should still have to prove its case by going through all of the proper motions. If Dershowitz will help ensure that the state plays by the books, that is only a win for the Constitution.
Even Weinstein (like OJ) deserves a fair trail and a good defense.
