I didn't watch the show, but ESPN SportsCenter had removed the SC6 sportscast with Jemele Hill and Michael Smith.

What happened since then?

Something astonishing happened at ESPN after Jemele Hill left ‘SportsCenter’

Tucked away in a Thursday news release, ESPN revealed that the 6 p.m. edition of “SportsCenter” saw a 9 percent rise in viewership.

“The 6 p.m. SportsCenter has focused on including breaking news as well as an emphasis on ‘setting the table’ for the night in sports,” said David Roberts, ESPN’s vice president of network content, who also oversees the 6 p.m. edition of “SportsCenter.

“The response from viewers has been fantastic, as April’s increases indicated an appetite for coverage of the biggest stories in sports, such as: the Masters, the NBA and NHL playoffs, the return of MLB to Puerto Rico and the lead-up to the NFL Draft. During the playoffs, the show takes on even greater importance in informing fans,” he added.

...
By no coincidence, the ratings bump seems like a direct response to ESPN kicking Jemele Hill and Michael Smith out of their previous “SC6” segments and covering just sports on the 6 p.m. “SportsCenter.” Hill drew widespread criticism and condemnation when she accused President Donald Trump of being a “white supremacist.” Smith hasn’t been as outspoken with his politics, but he has always provided tacit and overt support of Hill’s message.

So yes, ESPN took the politics out of a show and it’s sagging time slot. Now, that show has bounced back with a nearly 10 percent increase in viewership.

So... do you think that the ESPN folks will figure out that what people want from ESPN is what ESPN is supposed to deliver - which is sports?

NO I do not think ESPN will figure out that what people want from ESPN is sports.... I think they still think its their right and duty to push an agenda. give them time, they will return to what they are.

that wont change until the mgmt. changes. period.

People do turn into sports to get away from politics many times. When they find politics there, they turn from that.

Understandable.

Her show could have spoke to people who are underrepresented and maligned by white racists. It was targeted to an audience of people of color but there just was not enough viewership. Trump supporters would have never, ever watched it anyway. Many of the athletes they reported on had political opinions. That’s life, deal with it.

How much money would ESPN and its advertisers had made had she done that? That show would have been removed faster than it was already. People don't tune into to ESPN to watch that stuff. You don't get it. Maybe she should move to CNN or MSNBC and do her show.

Exactly. So the rise in viewers might be as simple as the NFL season being over.

No, you don't get it. That was never what her show was about. It's hard telling what you read her show was about on Breitbart.

grow up. if she really has anything good to say, then she can get a job at the clinton news network. she got way to political on her show, on a sports channel, and it cost her the job. that isnt what espn is there for. its there to do sports reporting, and show games.

as i said she can always get on with cnn, msnbc, or other liberal news network, and work to bring their ratings down further.
