CA became the worlds 5th largest economy, by-passing UK, so they must be doing something right Wouldn't you think?
Maybe. But those are unrelated issues.
You could also say China is the second largest economy so they must be doing something right. Meanwhile, almost a billion chinese people live in poverty on less than $5 per day.
The cost of living in California has maybe 25% to do with politics and 75% to do with location. Of course the beachside or mountain view homes are going to cost a fortune. They do in other states as well.
California will soon be a place for the extremely rich and the extremely poor. The middle class people won't be able to afford it. That's why they are all moving elsewhere.
You, apparently, have not been to Texas, lately. That has already happened. And most of them are from California.
Or Mexico or India.

This Texas native certainly uses that term.

Saw my gynecologist yesterday probably for the last time..... this time next year we will not be in this state.
He grew up in Palo Alto. His parents are still there - in assisted living. He remembers and loved growing up there.
Told him I probably won't see him next year. He said in his neighborhood at least three California transplants came in over the last couple of years.
All moved back to California.
You are moving back to California? I would love to do that some day.
