Revolutionary idea: how about if you aren't a US citizen, you don't try to come into the country illegally? Then you wouldn't have to be separated from your kids. How tough is that concept?

Exactly this. They chose to bring children along when they knowingly break the laws, they chose to endanger children when by however means they enter illegally and expose them to dangerous people.

What's with this white Christian male hang up you have? You think that it's only they that want our immigration laws respected and enforced? At least Sessions (and his race and religion are irrelevant) is telling these people up front not to come here or they may be separated from their kids.
