the topic of the thread is a Carter family member getting an Outback meal, although trying to shift the focus to me is cute. I might go to Outback too.
The mother is a hypocrite and the NCAA cleared Carter within a week of this "report". So your reason for him going pro was shot down before it even took flight.

Carter was cleared by the NCAA long before he declared for the draft so your reason for him going to the NBA was shot down and the mother is still a hypocrite that just wanted a direction to spew her hate.
They are most certainly being compensated. At least a large number of them are. A free ride is worth a lot of money. This is one thing I can not get behind.

I agree with the mother for the most part. Elite HS athletes aren't slaves because they aren't the property of the colleges that control them. They're serfs: bound to the college that enrolls them with no rights to what they create, unable to leave for another college without permission.
The education elite athletes get is a sham. Almost every DI college has been exposed for some kind of educational fraud in these programs. For every athlete that goes on to become a pro athlete or Dr. or lawyer there are 100 who get nothing for the money they made for the college except a piece of paper. After 4 years of catching passes or dribbling a ball, they're back on the street. If one chose to spend time on his studies at the expense of his sport, he'd be out the door.
Athletes in televised sports should be paid. They're the one who bring in the big TV contracts. Not the ADs' not the head coaches, both of whom make millions. Everyone gets rich except the athlete. And it's the athlete's work that made them rich, not theirs.

WRONG....this is the same lame argument that is always made!!! Athletes get 4 years of free college education, which could be worth $200K or higher, depending on where they go. The athletes CHOOSE how they want to use their free education. There have been some who have gone on to medical school and other great careers after sports. If they want to skate by with the easy college classes, they can CHOOSE to do so.
The athletes that are the superstar players and are actually driving up the revenues for the schools, are the ones most likely to get paid due to all the exposure (ala, the result of reviving this thread- the player in question got drafted and will make millions). Be honest, over half the team, the bench players, are pretty replaceable and are not responsible for the $ millions/billions that schools are generating, yet they receive hundreds of thousands of dollars in FREE tuition that they can CHOOSE to use to get a FREE education. The star players are really the ones responsible for generating the schools revenue, and they are the ones who will have a decent shot at going pro and making big money (ie the player we’re talking about in this thread who got drafted and will make millions).

Ok, so lets do away with the scholarships and give them each a salary of 100k per year. Let them pay taxes and tuition and see how that fares versus a free education. Also if you do not believe that coaches play a huge role in developing those athletes, you are mistaking.
