I admit, I haven't read much about this (couldn't give a damn), but what do people think lobbyists do and are paid to do? many former congress and government officials become lobbyists....offering access, duh. they charge millions to their clients to provide access to their contacts in government.

The distinction is they are registered where as Cohen is not, not to mention that he is Trumps lawyer essentially having a lawn sale for access to the presidents policies.

Trump did increase the lock down period for anyone serving in his administration from a few years to 4(?) But he failed to address his personal lawyer taking bribes from companies.

Anyone notice how Trump doesn't use the phrase "draining the swamp" anymore.

May not be illegal, but hardly above board for the administration that is supposed to be draining the swamp.
Don’t those optics matter?

“The curious relationship between one of the world’s biggest drug makers and President Trump’s personal lawyer began early last year when Michael Cohen, a longtime fixer for the president, reached out to Novartis’s then-chief executive officer Joe Jimenez, promising help gaining access to Trump and influential officials in the new administration, according to an employee inside Novartis familiar with the matter.
...
“He reached out to us,” the Novartis employee said, providing STAT with the company’s version of events as it scrambles to contain the fallout from being entangled in the investigations surrounding Trump and his inner circle, including Cohen. “With a new administration coming in, basically, all the traditional contacts disappeared and they were all new players. We were trying to find an inroad into the administration. Cohen promised access to not just Trump, but also the circle around him. It was almost as if we were hiring him as a lobbyist.”“

Yup...Novartis regretting that deal:

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/artic...h-trump-lawyer

Brief quote:

"Novartis AG Chief Executive Officer Vas Narasimhan said the Swiss drugmaker “made a mistake” in signing up lawyer Michael Cohen to give the company insight on President Donald Trump’s health-care plans.
“Yesterday was not a good day for Novartis,” Narasimhan wrote to employees Thursday in a letter reviewed by Bloomberg News. A day earlier, the drug company said it had paid $1.2 million to a firm led by Cohen, who is at the center of a U.S. law enforcement probe, as well as a civil lawsuit related to payments to an exotic dancer.
“We made a mistake in entering into this engagement and, as a consequence are being criticized by a world that expects more from us,” Narasimhan said in the letter. “What defines us now is how we respond to this difficult situation.”"

do you think nancy peolsi's husband, that crazy politician's family, Maxine, in California, or eric holder were hired by people and paid millions and millions for their terrific skills? come on.

I'm not excusing influence peddling , but trump may not have known. surely Pelosi, Maxine, knew what their family members were doing.

I abhor using political power for personal gain. let all of them be tossed to the wolves.

Anyone, family or friend, with access to someone in power is always cultivated in Washington DC by others who want something. Not illegal. Obama's best buddy Marty Nesbitt cashed in Big League.

How would Trump know Cohen was acting as a lobbyist? He has more important things to worry about.

Cohen not registering as a lobbyist isn't a big deal. There was at least one other person in the news a year or two ago who retroactively registered as a lobbyist, might have been after he retired. Maybe paid a fee or fine, similar to an FEC violation, for example. Unless, of course, someone is connected to any member of the Trump family, then he should be dragged off in chains.

Trump used the phrase 'draining the swamp' tonight in the Indiana rally to persuade voters not to vote for the incumbent Dem.

Selling access and lobbying aren't the same thing.

If you truly abhor using power for personal gain, you're probably won't be a Trump supporter for much longer. The writing is on the wall.

Cohen is Trump's bagman, making the connections with Fortune 500 companies and shaking them down, then laundering the money through shell companies. I just wonder what Trump's cut was? I'm guessing 80-90%.

Novartis paid Cohen over four times more than it paid its actual lobbyists. As a matter of fact, they paid him more than any company has ever paid a single lobbying firm.

https://www.statnews.com/2018/05/10/...han-lobbyists/

This is looking more and more irregular.
