The analogy I like to use is: Someone touches a hot stove and burns their finger, which is bad for them. So the law steps in and says "We are going to punish you for burning your finger, and we want to protect you from burning your finger again, so we are going to cut your hand off."
Another thread made me realize just how insane The War on Drugs really is. In it, someone made a comment that drug addicts cost society "hundreds of millions per year". I don't know what the real figure is, but for the sake of argument let's be safe and call it a billion. So, at $1 Billion per year, it would take addicts 1,000 years to cost society $1 Trillion. But isn't that about how much we spend every year fighting The War on Drugs?
Yep, that's a 4 slapper all right.
Sir, if you don't step down off the railing of this bridge and stop threatening to commit suicide, I will be forced to respond with deadly force in order to protect you from yourself!
As the wife of a retired cop (who was at one time a K9 handler) this IS a really stupid reason against legalizing pot. K9s live in the same home as their handlers. They live with (and are part of) a family when off duty. Almost always, when a K9 retires he is adopted permanently by the handler and his family. They won't be put down if a state legalizes pot.
Thank you for exposing this story for what it is. Propaganda. Pure and simple. The prohibitionist's propaganda machine is still desperately churning it out.
It's a futile attempt. Much to their dismay, the writing is on the wall.
Well, when they are done with their drug dogs, perhaps they could come to my neighborhood and euthanize the barking neighbor dogs that kept me up all last night. I was nearly ready to do it myself.
I like the logic of the drug warriors: "Drugs are bad for you. They ruin your life. So if we catch you with drugs we're going to send you to prison. Because we wouldn't want you to ruin your life, now, would we?"
Despite the billions of money wasted and the millions of lives impacted, did anyone not sip, snort, shoot, smoke, or swallow the mind-altering chemical of choice last weekend?
I didn't. I'd venture that many here didn't. We aren't all degenerates.
I do enjoy these threads, though, where every addicted person on CD attempts to forward the most absurd and emotional arguments for making indulging their addiction ever easier.
The question was "did anyone not sip, snort, shoot, smoke, or swallow the mind-altering chemical of choice last weekend?".
If you are trying to say that caffeine is not a mind-altering chemical, then you should refrain from commenting on a subject that you are so ignorant about.
Will this be the new "Just think of the CHILDREN" type of calling?
Sure. Its always a plus when as few addicts are around children as is humanly possible. Even one less is a win.
