A federal lawsuit seeking to block construction of the Obama Presidential Center in Jackson Park was filed Monday by public parks activists against the city of Chicago and the Chicago Park District.
What happened?
An “institutional bait and switch.” The original purpose of the transfer of public park land to the Foundation – a private non-government entity – was to house an official federal Obama Federal Library. However, that purpose no longer exists. Obama decided his center will not include his official presidential library. The federal National Records and Archives Administration will run it from someplace else.
Oh... Obama is turning this into something other than was intended... he is making it into a shrine of himself... along with the federal presidential library somewhere else.
One building is apparently not enough for Mr. Obama.
Can we be honest? This is what Obama wanted to do all along. Start it out as a public project, and as time progresses and no one is looking... slide control of the land over to the Barack Obama Foundation, and then he can do what he wants... and then have a federal library as well. One of the problems is that it's against the law to turn public land over to non-governmental groups... not that Obama cares about following the law...
Under the "new model" digitized versions will be easily searchable and available at the Chicago library, and the originals kept in secure archival storage in Washington. All Presidential Libraries are meant to secure a legacy... so unless you have an issue with Presidential Libraries in general....
"...once the records are digitized, NARA will store and preserve the original paper records, as well as the artifacts, in an existing facility that meets NARA’s high standards for archival storage. A staff at that location will be responsible for caring for the records and artifacts. As part of NARA’s responsibility to provide access, staff will also support a loan program that provides records and artifacts for exhibition in the Obama Museum, as well as in other private museums.
The establishment of a digital archives for the records of President Obama continues NARA’s efforts to establish new ways of reaching more researchers, educators, students, and citizens alike in the 21st Century, and sets the stage for a new era in the study of Presidents past and future as well as of the Presidency itself...."

The Obummer Library, or, as I like to call it, the Lie Barry, is being funded courtesy of $100 million from the already continuously robbed Illinois taxpayers. We are near junk status due to pension debts and other debts yet they are looting the public for the Obummer library?

If the transfer of land was conditional on the official Obama library being there it should have been clearly identified in the conditions of the land transfer. It seems somebody didn't do their homework. It was always mean to be the Obama Center and then the library attached to it. It was never going to be just a library.
I'm sympathetic to those that think they got duped -- but you gotta know what you are doing with these development agreements.
AND -- it seems in reading lots of articles about this -- the Obama Foundation never intended for the Official Library to be in this location.
For information purposes only -- the last devleoper that tried to develop land in this are was sued as well.

It seems the 2 of you are missing the flaw in your argument.
The library is going to be entirely digital, meaning there is no need to store the physical documents at the library .
That doesn't make it any less of a presidential library. Anyone trying to argue that the documents not physically being there changes the deal is grasping at straws as them being there doesn't change the footprint of the building ( which is what they actually are sueing about )
It is already built at no cost to the tax payers.... TRUMP Tower.
I bet it has more than a shiny medal, phone & pen.
If so, it will cost the public BIGLY to get in...just sayin’
