As long as police and prosecutors face no consequences, and as long as only the poor have to use public defenders, this kind of thing will remain common.
The only thing unusual about this case is that we're hearing about it.
Justice here in the Land of the Free is mostly up for sale. If you're middle class or above, odds are you'll be ok. If you're working class or below, you're at the mercy of petty government employees.
Yeah, I was directed (ordered) by a petty government employee to play in traffic, on foot, with toxic stuff, because as she said, "Unfortunately you carry less weight than the cargo you transport".
Gorsuch made the same decision against a truck driver who temporarily abandoned the truck trailer to save his own life.
I was very pleased to see that seven other judges voted against Gorsuch on that decision.
In my case, the federal judge ruled against me, saying, "she acted reasonably".
She was a government employee, and I was just . . . a guy.
This guy, was under contract with the government, which she signed on behalf of, that allowed me to transport the toxic stuff, or just me alone, with a government provided motor vehicle. She didn't even allow me to use my car.
At work I can determine the bill in 20 seconds or 1 minute depending if Im at the cashwrap that has the marker. If it were fake I would just hand it back. Not my business to confiscate.
I think by law you are required to call the police not give the bill back to the customer.
Why is he not suing the BPD and the DA's office for being trapped in the system? I don't see how it's Burger King's fault.
There must be much more to this story. The city of Boston is usually so careful around black people. Otherwise, as a homeless person, he got free lodgings and meals. And since he was arrested in the month of November, he had warm lodgings and didn't have to worry about the shelters being full up during the winter months.
Asking for $950,000 is ridiculous and he is being represented by shyster lawyers who want a third of that.
Now it's Burger King on the hotseat: homeless black man jailed for supposedly paying with fake $10 bill
this was in 2015. it took 3 months to figure out a $10 bill was real?
A homeless Boston man who was wrongfully accused of trying to use counterfeit cash at Burger King and spent three months in jail is suing the fast food giant.
Emory Ellis says in a lawsuit filed this week that he was discriminated against because he's black and homeless.
Ellis was arrested in 2015 after he tried to buy breakfast using a $10 bill that the cashier thought was fake.
The lawsuit says Ellis' arrest resulted in a probation violation that landed him in jail for three months before prosecutors dropped the charge when authorities determined the bill was real.

One thing for sure, he came out of jail looking way healthier, rested, cleaner and better clothed compared to when he first went in.
