The Jesuit arm of the Roman Catholic faith are called the defenders of the faith. Pat Buchanan is Jesuit trained. Pat Buchanan is and has long been a brilliant political analyst. As a liberal I credit Buchanan with not always buying into the knee jerk Fox News propaganda line. Buchanan doesn't buy into globalization like the media or the rest of the Republican party does either.
It has been my experience that criticism of Israeli policy or any criticism of Judaism, is grounds for charges of anti-antisemitism while criticism of Catholicism and Catholic practices is widely tolerated. Buchanan is often critical of Israeli policy and what he calls the "Beltway Likud". What is interesting here is that in some instances Buchanan and Chomsky are in agreement, yet no one calls Chomsky an anti-semite.
How does Buchanan go beyond the defense of Catholicism to draw such fire from liberal circles?
