lol, from twitter comments.

Wow he read a book about these strange "rural" people. He must be so enlightened.

Bubble boy made it to where he is without knowing anything about voters in other parts of the country. Now he read a book. Impressive.

You must be proud of Trump who has never read a single book in his entire life unless it was "Real Estate Developing for Swindlers".

I don't think there is any problem with Senator Booker's comments that there are some fundamental similarities between the issues that both Appalachian communities and certain places in his state of New Jersey are dealing with. He would probably have difficulty connecting with these communities in a hypothetical future presidential race, given both policy issues as well as his background. But he is a very well spoken politician and I'm not aware of his delivery coming across as condescending. Many people who don't necessarily agree with him on policy can respect his passion for public service ... those who are cynical about most non-Trump elected officials excepted, of course.

Our country needs to be split. The dems don't want to be run by the reps and the reps don't want to be run by the dems. The dems have no clue. When the dems gain power and try to confiscate the guns they will bring about a massive civil war.

The dems and reps are just too far apart to ever see eye to eye.

Here is what sums up the two:

Dems = baby killers, repeal the second amendment and confiscate the guns, legalize all drugs so people can be doped up 24/7, raise taxes, then raise them some more, illegal aliens are legal citizens, 2 hairy men can be husband and wife and a man with a penis is a woman, force feed the homosexual lifestyle down everyone throat - acceptance is not enough you must approve of it, take down the borders and let everyone in, big gov...more laws will surely fix it.

Reps = don't kill babies, leave the guns and 2A alone, dope is bad, lower taxes, illegals are not citizens and need to be deported, 2 hairy men cannot be husband and wife and a man with a penis is not a woman, do what you like, but we don't want the homosexual lifestyle forced down our throat, have strong borders and a secure wall is just basic security, less gov, less gov meddling.

People talk about how everyone should travel to foreign countries to educate themselves about different cultures. How about everyone should live in different parts of their own country to educate themselves about different American cultures.

So many of our leaders are clueless, yes including Trump, but it seems like it is getting worse, as it is now acceptable to view different US areas as "the other". Booker comes right out and says it, as if he is surprised Americans could have something in common with other Americans.

This is just wrong thinking. Somehow I managed to live in both urban and rural areas, and get along fine, people are people.

An overwhelming number of people of differing viewpoints get along just fine on a daily basis. Politicians and stupid message boards are where the divide is largely happening.

Paid trolls would be better than the free, right-wing ignorance we get around here. At least if they were paid, their actions could be justified in a warped way.

Once again you’ve nailed it. Add in the Russian trolls who are fomenting the online divide and you would think we are at each other’s throats, but we’re not. I must say that Trump has flooded the sewers and the creepy crawlies are much more visible and vocal than at any time I’ve ever seen.
