To be fair, government spying on citizens is neither new nor illegal per se. This includes the use of informants. For certain types of spying, however, warrants are required. While I think this entire investigation appears to be BS, I'd have to know more specifics before I'd condemn this particular instance.

i agree to a point. in the case of criminal investigations, the use of CIs is common, but these CIs are also generally checked out carefully, and th information they give, rather sell, is also checked out carefully for the most part.
but when our government starts spying on, and even allowing spying on, a political campaign for any office, then we must draw the line in the sand. in this case it is an attempt to take down a duly elected sitting president whose only crime is winning an election by the rules laid down in our constitution, and offending an entitled.............woman who thought she should be president and has been throwing a temper tantrum ever since, along with the rest of the party.

While this is a sham investigation, the use of CIs for even political campaigns (indeed, political campaigns can break the law like any other organization) isn't inherently questionable.
