The kneeling started before Trump. I was supporting it back then. Trying to blame it on Trump is demeaning to all of those who have been protesting for years.

Trump is all of those things but neither Obama or Hillary took a stand with those protesting either.
Unfortunately - Trump DID take a stand and it was to suggest that any 'son of a *****" who kneeled should be escorted off the field AND now . . he cries that they shouldn't even be in this country.

As Trump often does - he has poured gasoline on this fire - only because he thinks it will score him political points with his base.

He is still talking about it; tweeting about it; and further dividing our country over it.

Naturally, you will not call Trump out for what he HAS done.

...
He not only thinks it scores political points with his base, it does score political points. Trump knows which side his bread is buttered on.

As long as he can rally the base with his white supremacist talk, he will keep doing it.

LBJ put it best.

"If you can convince the lowest white man he's better than the best colored man, he won't notice you're picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he'll empty his pockets for you."

Exactly.

Trump is robbing the nation blind, but his supporters love how he looks down down on blacks, Muslims, Mexicans, ... so they don't care about the rest.

"He's one of us," they say. "A true American."

But while Trump may call them "Americans" in public, in private he calls them "marks" and "suckers."

No one is gonna quit, but the players will be unified on what ever position the NFLPA decides to take against the owners. Could turn bad for both sides. If the union decides to challenge the new rule in court, no telling who wins, but it could go on for years all while the current CBA expires at the end of the 2020 season.

It's NOT about Trump. I did not nor have I ever supported Trump. I do not expect better out of him. If I put a "Beware of Dog" sign on my fence, you stick your hand in the fence and get bit, I'm not going to blame the dog. I know what the dog is.

There were very few of us defending those who kneeled even before Trump became president. Now it's the cool thing to do.

Elect another (D) president and people will crawl back into their holes.

Colin Kaepernick Says Hillary Clinton Should Be in Jail

If Hillary would have won and Kaepernick was still saying this, where do you suppose much of the current support would be?

I do NOT expect any better out of Trump. I did out of those who were supposed to be the alternative to Trump. Yes, I hold those who claim to be an alternative to a higher standard.

Just say the anthem before the players come out on the field. Do it over the PA announcement in the locker room so those players who want to stand can stand, and those that want to take a knee can do so without angry fans seeing them. Also, if a player wants to actually come out onto the field, let them do so (which I guess this rule is essentially doing in the reverse). This story has become much bigger than it should have because of all the media attention it has received and keeps receiving.

LOL - and let's not forget how "disrespectful" kneeling is, too.

I am NOT talking about defending Trump. I AM talking about Trump FURTHERING THE PROBLEM.

Whatever your issues with Hillary - SHE WOULD NOT HAVE DEMANDED THE SONS OF ******* BE REMOVED FROM THE FIELD. SHE WOULD NOT HAVE SAID THEY SHOULD LEAVE THE COUNTRY.

But, instead of responding - you bring up Hillary . Trump is pouring gasoline on the fire and you still condemn Hillary.

Whatever. I don't care when it was 'cool' to defend the kneelers. NOW is when they are in jeapordy. THANKS TO TRUMP.

It doesn't help it when you have a President who makes this an issue by constantly bringing it up via Twitter. As if this is something he should even be thinking about, let alone commenting on publicly.

I'm not interested in defending the "lesser evil". She wouldn't have defended them either as president.

That's right. Bitching without providing an alternative is just bitching.

Kaepernick didn't lose his job over this? It wasn't because of Trump.

It is because Trump knows his supporters are big into image and not much into substance. A few years ago, the same group of far right nutjobs were fixated on the flag lapel pins and whether they were of the sufficient 'patriotic' size. Trump's cult is obsessed with displays of faux patriotism like the national anthem ritual before games. However, they don't care that they voted for a man that dodged the draft during the Vietnam War.

A professional athlete kneeling during the anthem is considered disrespectful to the country and the military but POTUS trash talking John McCain - a man that was permanently disabled due to his service to this country that gave up a few years of his life in a POW camp is considered MAGA.
