"The National Anthem must be played prior to every NFL game, and all players must be on the sideline for the National Anthem. During the National Anthem, players on the field and bench area should stand at attention, face the flag, hold helmets in their left hand, and refrain from talking.
Notice the word must is used for players being on the field, but the would should in reference for players standing. That was the reason no players could of been disciplined who sat or took a knee.
The NFL owners are caught between a rock and a hard spot with a ton of money on the line.
According to the WSJ, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones admitted in the Kaepernick lawsuit that Trump told him “You can’t win this one.” Which could easily be taken as Trump publicly attacking the NFL if it didn’t side with him. Jones also testified that Trump said, “This one lifts me.”
So if they side with the players who are protesting racism, they risk alienating Trump and racist viewers.
If they side with Trump and the racists, they risk alienating mainstream Americans.
The boycott against the NFL for passing their anti-kneeling in response to Trump's threats could well turn into being a direct protest against Trump.
Remains to be seen if the NFL bet on the wrong horse here.

That is very true. It would look far worse if only a few players came onto the field as a protest against Trump.
It could also spread to the fans in the stands, sitting, or leaving during the anthem. I saw this once at a college hockey game where the players on the ice turned their backs to the flag when the anthem was being played. It was in protest against Bush and war.
Once they did this, people in the stands, who had been standing, sat down. Cannot happen again with Trump? Spreading beyond the original meaning of the kneeling.

You are so hung up on racism that you believe it is the only reason to not support the protests. In truth, most of us watch sports to get away from the political BS that dominates everyday life.

So you choose a sport that makes politics part and parcel of its every game by serving as a military recruiting tool?

Fascinating.
Since when is military recruitment considered political?
Seeing an ad for military recruitment during the game does not equal having protests on the field. One is a contractual obligation between the military and the network. The other is people using company time to promote their own agenda. Not sure why you can't see the difference.
Good Lord, he passed classified intelligence we got from the Israelis openly to Russian agents. He demanded that he be told the sources of the Steele Dossier and within days the men were hauled out meetings with bags over their heads. The likely source of one section was found dead in the trunk of his car. Trump's badmouths a POW and Gold Star parents. ...
Trump is not tweeting about the NFL players kneeling because he's a patriot. He's doing it to stir up his racist base.
Those who insist black players ought to "stand on command" as they are opposing injustice/racism on company time or aren't being patriotic enough aren't fooling anyone.

People wouldn't stand when Bush was president and even Obama. I've said this since the President weighted in on kneeling which at that point was a smaller issue than it was made out to be. Nobody have a crap about that or the cat-call you can usually hear even on television broadcasts and only complained about the players. Remember during the anthem you are expected to remain silent and still during it.

Yep. We hear that dog whistle loud and clear, his supporters do too. Kinda wish they would just fess up to it instead of the constant denials/deflections and redundant talking in circles. Man to man, I would respect them more. You don’t like me? Cool, I’ll stay on my side of the fence and you stay on yours. Clearly the side who likes to call others snowflakes doesn’t have the intestinal fortitude to say how they really feel. Not surprised at all though, usually the ones with the loudest biggest mouths have the smallest stick in the room.
