It's all about power and the focus on someone who should not be breaking every norm and law in the book to watch everyone scramble.

I, therefore, believe this is an argument where the NFL capitulates to someone who has no business telling them what to do. Why is politics in sports ... control.

players are being paid to play football by the owners, the owners make money off the players if they are successful. so basically they are paid employees

if the owner wants them to stand, they have to stand, no matter how they feel about protest, they are employees and the owners know kneeling cost them money. They can kneel all they want on their own time.

Who else starts their workday by standing for the national anthem? Ridiculous ritual.
Better idea; stop playing the anthem, access penalties for any social justice/political demonstrations and do the job your getting paid for.
Owners should do their part by getting off the taxpayer teat and funding their own stadiums ...oh and stop with the military worship at halftime.

The only thing the NFL seems to care about is $$$. I gave up on it when the Jets displayed their unbounded greed by requiring fans to spend a fair amount of $$$ to buy a 'personal seat license' that allowed them to spend even more $$$ to buy tickets. I can find far better things to do on Sunday afternoons.

The U.S. Military has a contract with the NFL to promote them during half time, and at the beginning of the games. The U.S. DOD PAYS THE NFL money to do this, which the NFL has agreed, under contract. It is a business deal for the U.S. Military to market itself to the NFL audience. The national anthem is part of it.

By signing their player contracts, the players are agreeing to the terms and conditions of the NFL and their sponsors like the DOD.

Im sure it does and said contract should be terminated on the grounds that the fedguv has no authority to enter into such agreements in the first place. Of course it will never happen, the NFL is just another crony getting fed by tax dollars ripped from our pockets.

And that is where the outrage should be. Not with players protesting the anthem but the government paying employers to force its employees to do and say something.

All this rule will do is guarantee that at least one player on each team will kneel before every game, negating any penalty. Either quit playing the anthem or deal with the fact that players are going to kneel and do other things you may not like. Conservative snowflakes will just have to learn that not everyone is going to think and act like they do no matter how much they stomp their feet and hold their breath.
