So because protesting is illegal in some countries, people shouldn't protest in the US? Oh.

Do you avoid driving on the right side of the road in the US because you shouldn't do that in the UK?

With people like Washington, Jefferson etc. around, it must have been tempting to assume that the country would keep supplying people of that caliber.

Not only is that pretty much the definition of a strawman argument, it fails on basic logic as well. "We must force patriotic displays to express gratitude that we're not like oppressive countries where lack of patriotic zeal is punished" makes no sense at all.

This is the nation that produced Joseph Heller - Catch-22 was supposed to be a warning, but we're living it. "The country was in peril; he was jeopardizing his traditional rights of freedom and independence by daring to exercise them."

It is YOU whose perfect countries are North Korea, Cuba, China, etc., because it is YOU who are promoting the suppression of dissent.

You and Jbgusa forget that we are talking about actions within the workplace.

Nobody is suggesting that these athletes have their right of free speech taken away from them and nobody has done so.

They are free to speak their mind (and they do so in abundance) outside the workplace as much as I am.

Good grief, can we dispense with the hyperbole?

Ehm -the nation's Chief Executive has used the words "Maybe you shouldn't be in the country". It's moved beyond a workplace disagreement.

Oh please!

The Buffoon suggests all kinds of things all day long. The man is a loudmouthed idiot. He has neither the power nor the desire to do a damn thing. You know that.

Come on! Don't put the fool on a pedestal he does not deserve.

This is the standard refrain of extremists. "If you don't like mode/behavior/law XYZ, feel free to emigrate, and don't let the door slam into your posterior on your way out".

As an anarchist/libertarian, I hear that constantly every time during a political discussion, both from the left and from the right.

People shouldn't use their freedom to attack what makes them free. It's akin to biting the hand that feeds you.

Freedom is for adults, not children. If someone wants to act like a child they have the right to be treated like a child.
