>not overly religious, certainly don't agree with the so-called religious right (which are actually liberal for the look for bigger government restrictions)
>want hemp (marijuana) brought back to legal like it was before the liberals outlawed it in 1937
> have no issues with same sex marriage, think you should be able to be with and love whom ever you want, don't want the government in my relationship...why do I need to PAY FOR a license and get permission for the same government (the license) to validate the relationship with the one I love
So you're a semi-libertarian.
I can recommend some books if you really want to get educated.
Our kids share our worldview so far, and I’d be surprised if that changed drastically. But it doesn’t align with one political party or the other, but rather our religious views.
Mr.Ginge and I are both democratic socialists. Our kids are too young to have a political affiliation yet, but all we are concerned with is that they become informed voters, and have a strong social conscience.
I have two adult children and one older teenager, and after twenty-some years of dinner conversation, I can say with a fair amount of certainty that we all, to varying degrees, fall left of center. All but one of our extended family members are the same.
I'm a liberal/progressive, but my 33 year old daughter makes me look downright conservative by comparison. She is a true progressive. The same is true with my 36 year old son. All of their friends are quite progressive as well. It warms my heart.
A little Friday fun - hoping to keep this good-natured and non-confrontational.
Are you a liberal raising another Alex P. Keaton (yes, I'm old)? Are you a conservative with a hippy chick daughter?
Just curious how this dynamic is playing out in other people's families
In our family not only do our kids share out political beliefs so do our grand kids. There is one exception and that is our son. He is more the type to play devils advocate, he does not vote and he loves to argue politics but he is more conservative than liberal on most issues. Our foster daughter is also a liberal, but all our nieces and nephews are conservatives.
My parents are lifelong Democrats. Old hippies who voted for McGovern. I loved getting into political arguments with my dad; I could come at him from the right and the left. He never knew how to respond. My mom is still pretty liberal, but she is pretty much a cynic now (she hates Trump, but despised Hillary).
I'm just glad I didn't end up as either a brainwashed liberal or a brainwashed conservative.
