First legalization of same sex marriage, now repeal of the abortion ban; it all was bound to happen.

Between both within Ireland and outside of it the scandals of Roman Catholic church have done it no favors. The country has been moving more and more towards being closer to the European continent in many ways including social mores, and this is just another manifestation.

The Irish PM calls it a "quiet revolution" and the liberalization of Ireland is a "good thing".

How about women being allowed to make that decision for themselves and the state just butt out?

Lol, "pro life".

Yet they eat meat.

They buy things with fur and leather.

They exterminate house pests.

They support the death penalty.

They're obsessed with war.

Pro-life? Please.

(I don't have an issue with all the things listed, but I also don't parade on a high horse as some sort of holier-than-thou paragon of pro-life virtue)

Abortion happens for reasons beyond unintended pregnancy. The woman whose tragic story in large part motivated this vote was happily pregnant with her first child when she went into labor at seventeen weeks. She and her husband requested a medical termination when it became very clear that the pregnancy could not be salvaged (seventeen weeks is well before viability even with extraordinary medical intervention), but they were repeatedly denied because of Ireland's strict laws prohibiting abortion. Her protracted miscarriage became septic, and still the hospital would not relent. After seven agonizing days, she died of multiple organ failure. That was what Ireland's women were up in arms about and why this vote was overwhelmingly in favor of repeal.

Phil said personhood started with the development mof the neurosystem. But I’m interested to hear the difference between a rudimentary and non-rudimentary neurosystem.

And cheer on deregulation of policies that protect the health of the planet which in turn provides clean air water and soil for folks to be nourished and sustained by.

A really screwed up lot they are indeed.

You have brought up an unexpectedly valid point. The nervous system continues to develop all the way into young adulthood. Generally, though, what most people are arguing about is the development of a pain response, which doesn't happen until the 6th month of pregnancy, around 24 weeks.
