Those states are doomed. NJ already lost tens of billions over the past decade as a result of wealthy taxpayers leaving. It’s now the number one state for people leaving. Their solution is to add more taxes on tap water and beach passes. But taxes are already too high and they lose billions to states like Texas and Florida. That will get worse with each tax increase. There is no way out of this tailspin, except maybe bankruptcy.

LOL. Yeah California is just DOOMED! Oh please. This constant nattering is just getting dull. More FUD. And Connecticut with its high per person income...yup doomed as well. Know what they have in common? They're all featured on some Fox news hit piece that's low on facts or details. Even for Fox theyre pretty light on facts there.

I have spent my much of my adult life in school board, city council, county commissioner's court meetings and hearings. Each and every time the subject of pensions comes up, the board calls in their advisors. The advisors are always very enthusiastic with their economic forecast. I have never witnessed them telling the board who hired them they cannot afford the requested pensions.

Houston has been in a hole for years. They keep kicking the can down the road.

IMO, those advisors should be responsible for bad advise.

Sooner or later somebody somewhere is going to be asked by several very large waiters and a menacing manager
Who is going to pay the tab on this great party you had tonight

Good question, is it that Fox cherry picked them to try and make a dubious political point hoping that you wouldn't look into things any deeper? Texas has almost $300 billion in debt, but is noticeably absent. It also has a worse debt/gdp ratio than California. Wouldn't fit the narrative though.

Here is an interesting tool if you want to see where your state stands. Pretty depressing though.

When the Pubs give huge tax cuts at the federal level, state and local taxes can only go so far to make up for the lack of fed funding of necessary services.

And so it goes.

WAY overly generous public employee pensions aren't "necessary services."
