California bans state travel to Oklahoma over LGBTQ law | The Sacramento Bee

https://www.sfchronicle.com/bayarea/...o-12961611.php

California has a policy of banning state funded travel to any state that it views of having discriminatory laws on the books towards the GLBT community.

Truth be told with all the unfunded pensions, their state can't afford the luxury of leisure travel to silly events in other states.

I am sure those states consider it an honor though that California won't be sending politicians on the state dime to their states.

I personally don't care about social issues and had no issue with states having gay marriage before the supreme court made it's decision, I also don't care if state's want to legislate laws similar to what they had on the books generations ago.

The latest is Oklahoma as it adopted a law that allows adoption agencies to work with gay and transgendered community.

A war between states benefits nobody. CA can win a war with one state because they are the biggest, but not with all of them.

I doubt that CA wants the other states to enact similar restrictions that would negatively impact CA.

One of the strengths of the American system is the independence of states. When they begin to fight, we all lose.

WRONG. The new Oklahoma law protects adoption agencies from being denied taxpayer dollars if they have a religious based reasoning for denying anybody to adopt. The new law is most specifically aimed at LGBT people. In Oklahoma there is a great deal of hatred against such people, so not much of a surprise such a law would be passed. Such laws can be declared unconstitutional whenever someone is denied adoption due to their religion.

California does a lot of this “symbolic “ nonsense .

It’s more a PR /political move so that people think they are fighting for LGBT rights or whatever .

They need to work on crime , traffic, poverty , bad schools , homelessness and all the other big issues .

Instead they want to waste time on stuff like this instead of the issues that actually affect people since it takes a lot less effort .

It's like nonsense like this. The L.A city council made a motion last year to support the impeachment of Trump...based on what? I guess just the fact they don't like him.

Really makes them look stupid.

This is what they get paid over $180k a year each to do...

Of the entire city council there is only ONE Republican. He's the most sensible one that actually seems concerned about quality of life issues.

Oklahoma is the 9th state?

New Hampshire was the 9th state to ratify the U.S. Constitution.

Oklahoma was more like the 46th state.

Honestly most reasonable conservatives and libertarian leaning moderates who may have voted Trump don't really want to clamp down on LGBTQ rights and have a pretty casual, live and let live type mentality, so I don't know why these politicians feel the need to create laws against gays, LGBTQ, etc. Very few "republicans" I know care either way about public bathrooms or even give it much thought. There's only a small, vocal percentage that get their panties all hurt over it.
