Income tax could replace property taxes. Then it's at least based on an ability to pay the tax charged.

If property taxes were abolished, in all likelihood other taxes would rise (i.e. income, sales, vehicle, etc.) or new taxes (or "administrative fees") would be introduced to make up for the shortfall and pay for the services.

There is a huge deviation in what people are paying in property taxes across the US, with some homeowners paying well under a thousand dollars a year and others paying well over a thousand dollars a month for a modest home.

That is one option, but the downside of this is that a very high income tax rate penalizes people for actively working, so that leaves more able bodied people thinking "why bother?" when my neighbor over here seems to be living just as well as me and sits at home all day.

  • Issue a voucher to every student for the exact same amount using state funds through an income or sales tax.
  • Voucher can be used at their public school or private school of their choice.
  • Public schools would be required to accept students at the value of the voucher.
  • Allow the student to bank voucher funds for higher education providing an incentive for schools to lower costs.
  • Private schools would not be required to accept voucher students but would be required to accept x percentage of special needs or compensate the public school if they do take in voucher students.

Discontinue our military interventions in wars overseas and other assorted countries. It’s high time that the people in the Middle East behaved like adults. They’re only happy when they’re killing each other. We shouldn’t intervene.

Reduce the DOD budget by 50-75 percent.

Then, we’ll have a lot of things that other developed countries have like education.

The one problem with your argument is that the US on average spends more per student than just about every western country. Our spending is only exceeded by very small rich countries like Switzerland.

Soooooo, the people who pay the police could use them for their own private security force. Or to go beat up on people they don't like. What could possibly go wrong?

Judging by the poor results, I'd like to know what exactly these money "spent per student" go for?
