A Michigan lawmaker is proposing a "Women's Veteran's Day" for June 15th citing that it is not fair that stories of female veterans often get left out of the narrative.
Should we create a Women's Veteran's Day? If so, should Veterans Day on 11/11 be changed to Men's Veteran's Day?
Should we also divide us up further and have Black Veteran's Day, Hispanic Veteran's Day, Muslim-American Veteran's Day, Veterans with a Peanut-Allergy Day, LGBTQ+ Veteran's Day, Mormon's Veteran's Day, etc...?
PBS did a wonderful tribute to women veterans on its Memorial Day concert Sunday night. I loved it. My mom was a member of the US Army Nurse Corps in WW II, saw action in the Philippines and New Guinea. Her unit was getting ready to move to Japan for the invasion of Japan when Truman dropped the bomb and ended the war. In 1947, she attended a Veteran's Day parade in her hometown. The Ladies Auxiliary (of the American Legion?) wanted her to march with them, as they'd never had a woman vet before and didn't quite know what to do with her. Her Dad (my grandfather) a WWI-era vet said "No! She will march with me"! I get tired of hearing about "Rosie the Riveter" when the women's role in WW II is discussed, as if no women served.
Do I think there should be a women's veteran's day? No. I think women should be included with all the vets.
Instead of complaining, we should share more stories of women veterans and honor them on Veteran's Day and on Memorial Day (for women who have died serving our country).

No and No, a veteran is a veteran, doesn't matter the gender, or anything else. We already have enough divisions going on in this country, we don't need this. They were all fighting for the same cause, and same country, I wouldn't change a thing.
and veteran means a person who came under fire in an armed conflict in service of their country, so may not include many in the, or formerly in the, armed services, but may include some who were never in the military.
Excuse you. That is incorrect. My father served stateside in the Army, 1962 to 1965, and got the SAME GI Bill benefits when he was discharged that anyone serving in Vietnam got who made it home. In fact, he was a high enough security risk that he would NEVER have been sent anywhere where he could have been captured alive (so said his CO).
