Maybe Trump should say thank you to the world’s 5th largest economy - California - for driving a lot of growth. It represents 14% of the nation’s overall economy.

California is now the world's fifth-largest economy, surpassing United Kingdom

I would say this is in spite of Trump. There's a supportive atmosphere for innovation in NYC, Silicon Valley, Chicago, etc. - but this administration has done nothing to further the sciences and education. Ironically, the US remains competitive in large part due to our liberal immigration laws.

Tiger economies like Singapore and Hong Kong thrive on efficiency and innovative management of public assets, Trump seems more interested in corruption and nepotism; exactly the opposite.

+1

Yes, in part due to stellar public universities - another area in which Trump seeks to undermine.

I think his economic policies indirectly fuel innovation. The bulk of those responsible for said innovation probably don't want to think about that, but there is some truth to it. Much of our innovation is also the result of the last administration's push for innovation.

People on both sides of the aisle aren't going to like this post.

Trump wants to cut the National Science Foundations budget by $776 million dollars (a 11 percent cut.) Trump also wants to cut NASA's budget by $561 million dollars a year. ex.ex.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/...=.c02203b66440
Here's what we'll lose with Trump's proposed NASA budget cuts - Business Insider

Trump's budget also cuts education funding by 13.5 percent ($9.2 billion dollars.)
https://www.npr.org/sections/ed/2017...s-to-education

Trump's policies then transfer that funding to the richest 1% of Americans via tax cuts.

Immigrants start 24% of America's new high tech companies, immigrants file over 60% of Americas high tech patents, and immigrants founded 20% of America's Inc. 500 companies.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/...=.a5dc238f4c65

"44% of U.S. engineering and technology startup companies based in Silicon Valley were founded by immigrants."
"More than 40% of the international patent applications filed by the U.S. government had foreign-national authors."
Why Trump

"Immigrants Are Behind More Than Three-Quarters of Patents From The Top Ten Patent-Producing American Universities."
Press Release: New Study Reveals Immigrants Are Behind More Than Three-Quarters of Patents From Top Ten Patent-Producing American Universities - New American Economy

And "35%-40% of new firms have at least one immigrant entrepreneur connected to the firm’s creation."
https://hbr.org/2016/10/immigrants-p...trepreneurship

Trump's immigration policies (hatred of) South Americans, Africans and Muslims threatens the backbone of America's immigrant started businesses and technology sectors (immigrants will be less likely to come to America knowing so many Americans HATE foreigners, and then many of those immigrants will go to countries in Europe or Asia to launch their inventions.)

Fiddling with the corporate rate may have increased innovation somewhat, but the real problem is that the tax bill has fueled a share buyback boom - which is to the detriment of longterm investment. I don't see how Trump has anything to do with this.

This would help those that want Cali to be 2 separate states.

Only 14%? The way some liberal Californians talk, I thought it might be closer to 80%. I heard on the radio today that in the last few years, more people have left than moved to CA unless of course you count the illegals coming and going as they please.
