The scumbag that shot him kept his hand in his pocket the whole time, the cop only had his taser out to defend himself. He survived thank god. Luckily street thugs rarely know how to aim and handle firearms

I was glad to see that he didn't die.

This happened last year, and the perp was just sentenced to 35 years. The officer is still on medical leave, but hopes to return to work soon. His injuries were horrendous, as are the scars that remain. He could have been killed.

Yup. Cops are holding tasers, while thugs pull the firearms. Wonderful.

Cops need to match or have more arsenal than the thugs but you all cry about that too

In a series of surveys, more than half of police chiefs across the country have reported multiple rounds of budgets cuts, forcing layoffs, furloughs, hiring freezes, loss of specialty units, cutbacks on training and equipment, and service cuts.

"It's turned into the Wild Wild West. We have seen such an increase in gang activity and gang violence and guns as well as drugs. They've more or less taken over our communities."

United States today has become excessively militarized, mainly through federal programs that create incentives for state and local police to use unnecessarily aggressive weapons and tactics designed for the battlefield.”

and here in FLORIDA- the old geezers that move here do not want their taxes-raised- making it worse as we have no state income tax-- the more geezers come the worse it will get - they need to go home-

Since 2010, the agency has lost 993 troopers — or about half of its workforce of 1,946 troopers, to retirement or resignations, the highway patrol's director Col. Gene Spaulding told the Tampa Bay Times (https://goo.gl/pYc3hW).

The cop exercised a lot of restraint. He told the guy several times to take his hands out of his pockets or he was going to tase him. Hope he makes a full recovery and returns to the job soon.

Being a cop is a lousy job. You're expected to enforce many nonsensical laws and you'll be in contact with the dregs of society. 35 years seems light for this perp.

It's sad that with all the budget cuts described, tax payers will be forced to support the perp in prison. We waste so much $$$ warehousing criminals. That $$$ would be far better spent on education, healthcare, space programs, infrastructure, and other things that could make this country great again. Instead, we are all held back by lowlifes. And we wonder why this nation is circling the toilet bowl...

Yes, he did. And the result demonstrates in a way that couldn't be more crystal clear why we hear of cases where they don't.

This POS should be spending the rest of his life in prison. He could get out in less depending on the laws of state.
