Dick's Sporting Goods should be renamed Dick's Sports goods, because they're selling more NBA gear than they ever sold in true "sporting goods." And that includes guns.

My husband and I have guns, and have never even considered purchasing guns at Dick's. And we don't personally know anyone who has. Firearms--or even hunting--has NEVER been their focus.

Their focus is sports team gear, clothing and shoes, with some camping gear thrown in. And as for the increase in sales--not only are those those things increasingly popular in this sports-obsessed society, Dick's added three more stores this year, so.... duh. And six more stores are soon to open to satisfy demand for 200-buck sneakers and a wide range of overpriced team-branded clothing. And their stock suffers the same vicissitudes that every company's does.

Dick's sales and stock market performance has nothing to do with their decision to cease selling guns--something which was not only unprofitable for them, but which had put them in the unenviable position of acting as a gun dealer, with all of its onerous requirements and red tape--which kick in whether they sell one gun or one hundred. They were happy to jettison it.
Which changes nothing about them getting paved by online sales. People peruse something, try it on and buy it online now. They were just hoping to use some political slant to keep from drowning sooner than later.

Take gun sales out of the equation. I find Dick's to be very expensive. So I do not shop there.

Yeah, it's a seasonal business.

Their sales go up and down throughout the year.

The quarter with highest sales was before the policy change in February of 2018.

In fact, if you look at the daily revenue (TTM), we see a steady increase that ends abruptly in the spring of 2018.

What's more telling is the cash from operations (TTM).

This, probably without knowing it, is what you have been crowing about.

Notice the nose-dive that starts in 2018 following the policy change announcement.

They had a good thing going, strong sustained growth in revenue, but they decided to **** with their customers.

Not a good idea!

Always look at the longest trending data before diving into a buy. That article probably fooled a bunch of "fools". They need to stick to selling tactical yoga pants
