The fruits of Welfare Statism. These people have been told their whole life that government will take care of them, getting a job is partaking in evil capitalism, marijauna has no harmful side effects, liberals donate to panhandlers, public property is for your exclusive use, housing and water and health care are rights...
Don’t blame the homeless, blame the liberals.
Not that I don't think socialism is bad, but maybe some of them were the victims of crony capitalism. Maybe these guys were once construction workers until illegals priced them out of the market and they lost their house. Maybe they were tech workers until they were made to train their H1B replacement and then couldn't get back in the field because of age discrimination and then lost their house. Maybe they were factory workers until their jobs were all outsourced to Mexico and, since they were in factory work for so many years, they didn't, at least according to employers, have any transferable skills to get into other fields. Also, maybe they do have a job at Disney World or some such place but the pay is so low that they cannot even afford an apartment. Maybe they were in a good job but then lost due to being sick with cancer or something so much and, though they lived, their money was lost on chemo and other medical expenses and their house ended up foreclosing due to inability to pay the mortgage.
Even Ronald Reagan, the former CA governor, is responsible for this in some ways. Namely his making it easier to divorce when he was governor, thus weakening the family unit. Also,, he does, it seems, bare some of the blame for the outsourcing trend that began in the 1980's under his regime. Also, he signed that awful Amnesty bill and that was, in large part, responsible for the bluing of CA and the illegal alien invasion.
Yet people keep moving to these “conservative states “
“In comparison, the top five largest in-migration states are, in order, Florida, Texas, Arizona, North Carolina, and Georgia.“
You know what all these states have in common ? They were all won by Trump in the 2016 election .
On the other hand people are moving out of California and New York .
Atlanta is a liberal city , so it’s not surprising they’d have liberal problems like a lot of homelessness .
Because it’s cheaper to live there, many live and work in nyc and California then take their pensions to get more for their money in places with low cost of living. There is a revolving door of people moving in and out of nyc and california, usually the net lose and gain balances out
“Seattle’s problem is worse than ours, but we are catching up to them quickly because of the extreme poverty and lack of affordable housing in Dallas,” Woody said in an email response to questions from the Dallas Business Journal.
This is a world wide problem as the wealth gap gets wider and wages don’t keep up with the cost of living.
I don't think economics has much to do with the surge in homelessness as much as the fact that there has been huge surges in mental illness, and the drugs are different these days. This bolstered by stupid policies which encourage the lifestyle are really what is to blame, not home prices or the 1%.
This what homeless really think of garcetti. Watch a representative for the homeless rip up and award throw it in garcettis face. You won't find this on any news channel.
This is a real shame . I was born and raised in this city and it’s sad to see this happening .
Great example of the failure of liberal policies right here . This is not a slum type area either . It’s considered a desirable part of town .
The residents interviewed on this video don’t even feel safe anymore because the homeless have taken over and are committing a lot of violence and crimes .
These are third world conditions yet rent and housing prices are at an all time high here .
Los Angeles median home price is now about $1 million and average apartment rent is over $2000 month.
Keep in mind prices in this area are more than average . A single family home in this neighborhood is over $1 million on average . So you can imagine how bad things are in the lower income type areas where houses are “only “ $600k or so .

Let me see if I understand this right: Reagan is to blame because he made it easier to get a divorce, thereby weakening marriage? Have you ever thought that the marriage was very weak in the first place and so the couple needed to divorce? What kind of family life would couples have if they stayed together, as in, fighting in front of children and maybe even physical abuse?
30,000 criminals were let out of jail and prison early by demented Gov. Jerry Brown. Their 'job' is to commit crimes. More serious crimes have been downgraded from felonies and they can steal up to $950 worth of stuff with no penalty other than getting a citation to come to a future court date, which they never do. Seems to be modeled after the immigration policy.
The rest of the homeless are insane or drug addicts who don't want public services because they come with rules. They like no responsibilities and getting high. Insane need to be locked up for their own and public safety.
Unemployment is low in SoCal so there are jobs. During college I had three other roommates in a one bedroom apartment. Two slept in the living room and two in the bedroom. After college I had two roommates in a two-bedroom apartment. We each got our own room - the living room was my 'bedroom.' When George Clooney was a struggling actor he slept in his friend's closet.
It is a difficult problem, what to do with this increasing population of homeless. They will always want to congregate in high population areas with mild weather.

Drugs isn’t new. Drugs has been around since the start of time, some natural and others man made.
Mental illness isn’t new.
Policies were made in order to do something about the issues that plagued communities. For crack, they introduced the war on drugs which caused mass incarceration of dealers and users. Did that work? No because it targeted mostly minorities as well as made millions felons and not hireable in the job market. Today opioids/Heroine /meth is being handled drastically different and millions are being spent on rehabilitation rather than prison time.
People turn to drugs or other outlets usually out of struggle with mental illness and/or poverty, drugs is easy money and an easy escape out of reality. Mental illness has been ignored and left to balloon out of control. The states shut down hundreds of psychiatric facilities across the country. They were forced to shut down mostly due to lack of funding or in humane practices that were uncovered.

Who forced the crack dealers to be crack dealers ? What about personal responsibility ? Every crack dealer knows crack is illegal and dangerous . So they shouldn’t face any consequences?
Would you want to hire a former crack dealer if you owned a business ?
There need to be consequences for actions .
Should people not be arrested for being drug dealers or gang members because they are minorities?
