For more than 80 years now, we—the residents of what some people like to call Blue America, but which I prefer to think of as the United States of We Pay Our Own Damn Way—have shelled out far more in federal tax monies than we took in. We have funded massive infrastructure projects in your rural counties, subsidized your schools and your power plants and your nursing homes, sent you entire industries, and simultaneously absorbed the most destitute, unskilled, and oppressed portions of your populations, white and black alike.

I've been saying for quite some time that CA can get out right now. Take your tax revenues, your 7th largest economy in the world, and your illegals, and hit the road. Take Oregon, Washington and Hawaii with you as well. You can call yourself the Left Coast United States (LCUS).

I would not say never. This country is extremely divided - as it was before the civil war. I hope if we learned anything, it's that it would be better to divide the country, than to fight a war over it where hundreds of thousands of men lose their lives. Hopefully we are smarter today.
The fact remains that the state income tax structure of at least two of the states that supported the "Trump revolt" of 2016 (Pennsylvania and Michigan) is essentially flat. "Progressive" tax rates are, thankfully, outlawed under theses states' Constituions) -- I'm not 100% sure about Ohio, and know Wisconsin to be "progressive"(?) -- and I don't want to pick up the tab for faux "liberals" who want to push the high tax burden of California, New York, Massachusetts et al, on the rest of us by writing the cost of their grand schemes as an itemized deduction.
