They were armed. My only complaint is that the AK-47 is not the best home defense weapon, if that was his concern he should get a shotgun. Less chance of injuring neighbors.
So I guess my issue is more of a criticism. It appears at first glance to be entirely lawful.
I'm all in favor of people having guns for hunting, as well as self protection. But after Newtown when all those children were savagely gunned down, I feel that semi-automatics and bump stocks should be banned. My shotgun is all I need to protect myself from any potential home invasion.
The article that was linked in the OP just goes to show the lengths which people will go to in pretending that a homeowner with a semi-automatic is a hero when he kills - whether it was necessary to kill an intruder or not. I have major doubts about the homeowner in this story. From the link:
The homeowner, who asked to remain anonymous for his safety, said he came home from the barber shop around 7 p.m. to find his door pried open and his caged dog barking wildly.
If this individual is so concerned about protecting his home, why cage his dog, rendering it completely worthless for any sort of protection? I live alone in a rural area and I have a VERY big dog with some of the sharpest teeth I've ever seen. If a stranger sets foot on my property, I let my dog out as a very real warning. That Memphis homeowner is just downright stupid to keep his dog caged inside the house.
It's not the first run-in with crime for the Memphis man. His house is still pockmarked with bullet holes from a previous shooting at his property. "I don't know what's going on but I know I'm going to defend my life to the best of my ability," he told WMC-TV.
He said he does worry about possible retaliation.
"You never know how someone else's family may perceive the situation," he said.
This "heroic" homeowner lives in a house that is "pockmarked with bullet holes" and fears retaliation from his victims' families. What do you want to bet that the mayhem that this individual seems to have embarked upon is far from over? If he is so damn worried, he should get a security system for his home and let his dog do its job.
This little story stinks worse than a rotten catfish.
Leaving or not...the fleeing felon law says you can shoot them.
Please watch the update I posted earlier. They were outside but shooting at the homeowner's family member who had also walked in on the burglary. The homeowner went for the AK and the family member took off running. It seemed to work out for both of them.
This is local Memphis news and it is not known for its investigative reporting.
It's east Memphis. He could have been a target. Someone else could have been a target and the shooter had the wrong house. There could have been a gunfight in the street and his house was hit by random gunshots.
I worked in that area from 2000 to 2007 and it was bad. It has only gone downhill since.
