Magellan got as far as the Philippines, where he was killed on Mactan Island. The rest of his crew made it the rest of the way around without him.

This is in this forum why?

The US was avenging Magellan when it invaded the Philippines in 1898. The Philippines treated Magellan very unfairly, very unfairly, believe me.
