So, who's joining me in my move to Iowa?
Californians moving to Texas... 2 million Californians relocating into texas, and the Republican party will never ever be elected again.

Depends on where those Californians are from. The Bay Area and north? You're likely right. Orange County or the Central Valley? Texas Republicans are safe.

Texas will be blue after November.

Cruz came out against separating children from their mothers because his poll numbers are tanking.

So, who's joining me in my move to Iowa?

Unfortunately, that's gonna have limited results except in the very long-term. Regardless of ideology, their children more often than not adopt the prevailing ideology of the surrounding area.

Say there's a suburb of 100,000 people in Red-Metro, population increasing by 2% per year. Let's also say that, 20% of that suburb's original voters cast ballots for either of those two candidates. That's a 60 pt gap between Clinton-Stein and Trump-Johnson right there.

Let's also say that half the newcomers are "liberal" (i.e. 1% of the total population), or a 1% increase in "liberals" per year. That means it'll take at least 25 years for the suburb to become even marginally competitive (10 pt gap) and another 5 years on top of that for that suburb to reach 'break-even'. And even all that assumes every liberal's kids will keep their parents ideology, which a lot of them won't (although you can make the same case about the kids of conservative parents rejecting the conservative ideologies, so that probably cancels out).

So you're suggestion is only good for a very long term matter.

In most cases, and certainly in my own case, it's a matter of being forced by circumstances to interact with people who are well outside home-town norm in some way - whether "normal-dressing people" who are ideologically "centrist to liberal" or in an area with a huge percentage of people of people whose dress and socio-cultural-political believes are well outside the mainstream.

And even in my case, I just happened to wander into that kind of circumstance (i.e. drastically underestimating how many liberals could be present in an oft-said conservative Southern city).
As unpleasant as it sounds, changing values and attitudes is a matter of exposure to a huge diversity of people well outside the norm in some way AND a conscious willingness to say "hey, maybe those people DO have a fair point to make" - combined with "normal looking people" who seem to agree with at least some of the views of the "weirdoes" (an important bridge, believe me; especially for people with 'aesthetic bigotry/prejudice').

Take it from someone who a quarter a century ago had a firm faith in convention and tradition .
