Absolutely hated him as president.

But, as an individual, there were times he showed a great sense of humor, which I do like. So I liked that part.

His signature health care legislation was originally the idea of a right-leaning centrist, namely Mitt Romney who came up with an almost identical idea while governor of Massachusetts. Obama was POTUS at a time when Dems controlled the House and had a filibuster-proof Senate majority. He enjoyed tremendous support from his party. A true leftist would likely have come up with something MUCH more far left for a health care plan, such as a fully government-funded single payer healthcare system.

Obama's foreign policies were also more or less centrist. What far leftist is in favor of bombing countries like Libya that neither pose a true threat to the US nor have attacked the US? Diplomacy, sanctions, etc. are the tools of the far left to deal with foreign regimes that are behaving in ways that don't accord with international law, not bombings and military force. In addition, while discussing international law, why did Obama (especially when he enjoyed the filibuster-proof Senate to confirm such things) NOT enter into international agreements like the International Court of Justice?

His personal opinions may well have been further left, but who cares? Obama governed (as pretty much all US POTUS's historically have) from the center. It was markedly left of center, but certainly centrist nonetheless. There was plenty of areas of disagreement that those of us to the right of center could reasonably have had with Obama's policies, but really none of these policies were hard left.
LOL
Chicken or the Egg, maybe?

You call yourself a right leaning centrist, but unless you are looking at all sorts of various factors like big business, Wall Street, etc., Obama is a socialist at heart. You can read it in his own books, and when he was slipping up by letting people know where he stood on issues of race, (my people, Rev Wright) law enforcement (they acted stupidly), American individualism (you didn't build that), small town people (want to associate among their own kind/anti-immigrant) or related to firearms/bibles (clinging to their guns and religion), lack of American patriotism (apology tour, not putting his hand over his heart during the national anthem,,,not to mention Michelle's comments), anti-fossil fuels (cap & trade)-(prices should dramatically increase to reduce consumption) and the list goes on and on.

Now you do differentiate about his personal opinions, and go on to say who cares?
Well, if he were on the SCOTUS and his judicial philosophy were originalist (original meaning), then you could say his personal beliefs are irrelevant. But we know he would be a judicial activist reading all sorts of things into the Constitution that do not exist, other than in his mind.
Thus as an executive, his personal values especially when it comes to social issues seep into many things he and members of his cabinet/admin were up to.
If he were given a litmus test, rest assured he'd come out liberal/leftist.

Wow, that is some statement.
Believe it or not, you are not alone. I have a cousin out near LA who has been a liberal (D) her entire life. She was not a kook, but certainly went along with much of the (D) rethoric because of her Dad who was a union man. I never understood why my uncle blindly voted (D) since he seemed pretty pragmatic and given a litmus test he was a moderate. However he more or less told me that the (D's) looked out for the working man, and the more money he could make to put food on the table, was hi primary reason.
Needless to say a lot has changed since he was working.
Regardless, my cousin surprised us when she announced that she could no longer support the (D's), and would likely vote for Trump next election.
She is disgusted by all the antifa and blm nonsense that the (D's) now defend, and she also had her eyes opened this election with how much corruption has been going on with the DOJ, FBI, etc.

Anyway, you two might be the only ones in south CA to feel that way, but you are not alone across the rest of the country.

Some of these backhanded swings at Obama are hilarious when compared to Donald Trump.

Sheer partisan blindness.
