Does the president realize that the Canadians are our only friends in the world? (weapon, suspect)

Trump thrives on chaos. I don't think he cares a bit who is hurt, who is alienated, as long as he can make himself feel like the one calling the shots. He is happy when everyone around him is horrified by his behavior because he feels this puts others back on their heels, while he is in "control." His "policies" are only based on that guiding principle: if it creates chaos, it is good. He admires dictators because they are also in control.
He disdains democracy because people have to compromise and work together, which does not appeal to his autocratic sensibilities. We are all watching this country being destroyed by his self-aggrandizing, dictatorial, and definitely short sighted view of life.
But now the GOP is angry at Trump. They can't believe he and his team did this.
I'm not sure I'd put it so strongly as you did (though so well-said!), and I think that England, at least is a friend.
But I'd guess, no, the president doesn't realize it.
First, he's the dumbest president we've ever had on various fronts, but particularly in terms of history and international affairs. He's been aware of other countries only in terms of his own wheeling and dealing.
Second, he doesn't even seem to have personal friends, as the term is usually understood, in his private life. I'm not even sure he understands or wants friends, since he's so transactional. He doesn't even have normal relations with his own extended family.
Third, I think he sees the world in general as being out to get him. This was clear even in the primaries. He is always ranting that someone is being unfair to him. Note his language in speaking to other countries, as though he's always worrying that others are getting the best of him. He's even more paranoid than I imagine Nixon was. And, of course, he has more reason to be paranoid - because he's an ignorant, incompetent, corrupt guy, and if we're lucky, it's going to catch up with him.

Canada? Trump has Russia. He don't need no stinkin' friends. The only country he worries about hurting is Russia...even above our own interests. Because it serves his personal interests.
Cut off the cash flow and you will see if we really had to buy our friends, or were they our friend anyway.
We have a trade surplus. This trade war just hurts the U.S. Plus canadian import tariffs are actually lower than the U.S.
