Let's say the Mueller investigation finds a crime of some sort that is worthy of impeachment. Democrats take the House and have a narrow minority in the Senate. Enough Republicans, notably in swing districts, have jumped off the Trump train that they are able to convict him and remove him from office. What would happen next?

Trump would refuse to leave office. His supporters, backed by people like Sean Hannity and Fox News, would be calling the impeachment a partisan liberal conspiracy and would support Trump and still answer to him as the true President.

This would begin a constitutional crisis of the likes we have never seen in this country. It's the kind of thing that could spark a second civil war. The last thing anybody wants is for Trump to go down as a martyr.

While I do support the Mueller investigation, I think we need to tread lightly. I actually think this is the real reason we haven't seen an impeachment yet. Congress, especially Republicans, know how popular Trump is with his base and fears not only pissing them off, but they also need MAGA support to get things done.

Please. No one is above the law. And, more people disapprove of Trump than support him. The one thing that could protect him, if the investigation proved wrong doing, is the realization of having Pence become president. The majority of Democrats and many moderate Republicans view Pence as a greater threat than the current clown in office.

Shouldn't there be a fiction or fantasy section for threads like this? Reminds me of the story of how "Trump supporters" are going to riot after Hillary wins. But we all saw who did the rioting that day.

The real danger is civil war.

I'm not going to elaborate any further.

Let's say there was no Russian collusion because there is no evidence that there was and that Mueller was upset he wasn't hired by Trump so he hired 13 angry Democrats to try to find any evidence about anything that might damage Trump and finding none, he focused on crimes committed in 2006 by someone that he was already aware of when he was running the FBI, and Mueller and the 13 angry Democrats leaked salacious unverified and false gossip to the Democrat MSM to use in the election cycle and it doesn't work but he refuses to stop the investigation for the next 6+ years of the Trump Presidency...that's the constitutional crisis I fear.

what's the civil war going to be about? allowing illegal immigrants into the country? free medical services / education? socialism? gender neutrality?

this is the problem - there is nothing to fight about if you simply want the laws on the books enforced. what we are more likely to see is evidence that our institutions of govt. are corrupt and planned to sway the election toward Hillary and then take down a sitting president. That may lead to the formation of a new political party.

some states may try and break away. please let them.

The one thing no one on the left will admit was this was Mueller's second shot at Manafort. He couldn't take him down as FBI director, but as special counsel he was able to rip Manafort apart. From everything I've read all indications are Mueller will hit Trump with a lame process crime charge (an offense charged by a prosecutor alleging criminal conduct related to an investigation of a crime, but not to the crime itself). This kind of phony charge will please libs but outrage Republicans and independents.

If this is a nation of laws, then the law needs to be followed. If Trump is found guilty of crimes worthy of impeachment, he should be impeached, and forcibly removed to face trial if he refuses to go. Unless, of course, we want to trade Democracy and representative government in for a totalitarian form if government with a dictator, like Venezuela or Russia or North Korea.
