If we already have the capability to shoot down an enemy missile headed to any large US city, then why can't we shoot down a missile headed into outer space?
Waste of money right now when we are trillions in debt this will cost 5 trillion more in the next 5 to 10 years wow. Republican when they are in power they think they have unlimited 10x and the democrats have the stop there ridiculous spending when they get power again.
I am not sure how much I like it , but space force would have been better than Iraq.
I remember the derision President Reagan got for "star wars" and in that case a few years later we were able to knock down Scud missiles at a high enough rate to keep Israel out of the Gulf War and blowing up the coalition. As a separate force rather than a joint Air Force Navy command without the senior officers beginning their career on another path to be transferred to USAF or US Navy Space Command and ultimately to the Joint Functional Component Command for Space because that is last command position available might have some merit.
Space Marines, Mobile Infantry Starship Troopers and the like are the same argument used and given in trying to stop a shield and depending upon mutual destruction was 30 years ago with Star Wars.
Apples and oranges. Star Wars was a strategic national defense program. And while some of the ideas and technology gained there might broadly apply, the missiles that shot down the Scuds were theater based air defense weapons.
It's all a joke until Russia or China beat us to it and gain the upper hand.
Really -- we are the World's policeman now so we want to be the cop for the solar system? Is this to protect us from Martians or an illegal alien onslaught from another galaxy? Not to worry -- Trump will make Mexico pay for it.
What upper hand will Russia and China gain? We can already blast a weaponized satellite from installations on Earth without sending Space Cadets into orbit at a huge cost. We can put that on Trump's bucket list right after the wall and MAGA. He's preoccupied with doing Putin's bidding, playing diplomat and destroying families so this will have to wait.
