Bloomberg reports Starbucks is closing 150 stores. Inquiring minds might like to ask “Why?”

“The closing stores are often in ‘major metro areas where increases in wage and occupancy and other regulatory requirements’ are making them unprofitable, CEO Johnson said.

When will you Liberals get the point? It will never work.

I feel no pity for Starbucks, they support liberals and deserve it.

The "minimum " was added, also, "occupancy" was ignored. It could be that in those cities the economy is so strong that alternative employment is attractive. Also, maybe occupancy is such that retail space is hard to come by.

The amount of money Starbucks charges for coffee, they can afford it.

Still, no tears shed for them.

Ok, right-wingers you guys need to get off the Middle America mind set that once a shop closed, no business will ever takes its place and it just languishes as an abandoned building for eternity. I know that's how things are in the heartland. I know you saw business after business gone, people gone, economy gone, and just assume that's how it is all across the country. That you need to do everything to keep a coffee shop open because after it leaves down, ain't nothing will take its place.

However, that's not how things work in many urban area. There is a huge restaurant sized Starbucks near my work, before that it was a sports bar, before that it was a TGI Friday, and before that probably a disco. Businesses close and new then new business moves in. If this Starbucks closes, probably a Chilis or Pizza Hut will takes its place.

.

This is the third thread on this topic started over the past 2 days.

//www.city-data.com/forum/polit...me-stores.html

A link to the first thread is embedded in ^ thread.

Starbucks, like Walmart, Sam’s Club, Target, Home Depot, Lowe’s etc have too many stores in some areas and eventually close the unprofitable ones. And life goes on.

I have never had one but with that said, there are many things people can do without but that really isn't what life should be about is it?

This is the best explanation I think. These middle american small town people don't understand that there is another Starbucks across the street. There are just too many of them now and having some close is not a big deal. It is the invisible hand of the market.
