Texas steel pipe manufacturer becomes casualty of Trump's trade war

They are asking Trump for an exemption. Nothing they are doing is of national concern so it would be complete BS if they got an exemption.

Maybe but I see Trump exempting them because they say they will add 170 jobs. Then Trump will claiming he's adding more jobs.

I disagree with giving any company special treatment or exemptions. The whole purpose of tariffs is to create a level playing field for US businesses to compete with our international trading partners. Giving exemptions gives those companies an unfair advantage. This is wrong now, just as it was wrong for some, but not all, businesses to have been exempted from Obamacare. I do not want to see Trump pulling an Obama and giving breaks to his friends and donors and using the law to punish others.

If they are concerned-instead of bringing product in from Turkey-bring the manufacturing over and produce it here.

Well, Duh....
They are a Turkish company in the business of importing steel. What did you think would happen?!

The company imports steel tubing and casing from its parent company in Turkey, and finishes the products at a factory in Baytown.

The point is that imposing a tariff on an intermediary product like steel will end up costing other jobs. GWB did this in 2003. Analysis shows more jobs were lost that the entire count of U.S. steel workers.

Trump told G7 to drop all tariffs and subsidies in all countries. They weren't interested in fairness. Why should they be when they are getting the best of us?

Average tariffs are 2.9%. Existing tariffs are a boogey man.
