As they say, no such thing as bad publicity. Owners are probably counting on the free publicity over the 'outrage' and subsequent bashing of the bar on Yelp.
I didn’t read the thread, but I’m sure others feel the way I do about this. This sounds like a reasonable request in a bar in a town with a lot of anti-Trump people. Wearing a hat like that there is just asking for trouble, and a bar owner has a right to try to minimize the risk of conflict in his business. It’s sad that people can’t just ignore something like that, but people are going over the edge these days.

Actually, I would probably buy one of those.
Please note that I am not a Trump supporter.
Just make sure it's not a red hat. You don't want to give people the wrong impression from a distance.

How on earth did the Left allow the words "Make America Great Again" into an evil and offensive slogan?? Talk about losing control of the message!
I see no difference between rejecting customers because of what attitudes they express and rejecting someone from your social circle because of what their attitudes are. Believe it or not, words aren't just drawn shapes and vibrations in the air. They convey real attitudes, sometimes harmful and volatile ones (whether literally or symbolically, like MAGA hats to). In this case, MAGA hats, fair or not, are often associated with petty personal distaste toward others - not because those others actually set out to hurt or devalue others outside defensive purposes but simply due to some petty difference from the mainstream.
Those attitudes, if not called out, more or less invite other people to think "THEY don't deserve any aid, information, or helping hands from me, merely because of that petty difference alone". In other words, for arbitrary reasons. This kind of attitude, if not called out, breeds distrust and insecurity in the general population, retards economic growth by refusing to capitalize on the "distasteful person's" talent's, and lifts the blindfold off "Lady Justice" (to be metaphorical about it).
On more down to earth matters -- MAGA hats, given their reputation, can be seen as inflammatory (as can any political T-shirt), and thus can be seen as highly provocative in mixed company -- especially in closed settings where alcohol is likely present, and with a lot more likelihood of property damage than at outside festivals, given the intrinsic physical nature of bars vs outdoor festivals.

You'd be surprised, Otto. This isn't the 80s, or even year 2000, any more. From 2005-17, Dallas County had a Latina lesbian as its sheriff. Even when I got here in 2002, I could tell Dallas' days as a conservative city were definitely numbered. In 2004, GW Bush just barely took this county and easily took the city. Starting in 08, it's been Democrat in major elections ever since. Even the most conservative US congressional district in this county (and fully within it) voted for Clinton over Trump. Even conservative suburban Collin County's seen a generally upward Democratic trend since at least 1992. Only in two presidential elections has the Democrat done worse than the previous election year.
So even here, a Trump supporter would be wise to think twice before wearing a MAGA cap in a bar, even in one with usually predominately white clientel (unless it's a country bar, perhaps).

So, in a "conservative" part of any town the owner could do the same thing if some openly gays holding hands walked in "is just asking for trouble and a bar owner has a right to try to minimize the risk of conflict in his business."
Or suppose the bar posted a sign saying, 'If you support abortion, you are NOT welcome here"?
Like I said, just ANOTHER example of the hypocrisy from the left.
