The Supreme Court struck down a California law that required Pro-life pregnancy counseling centers to promote the availability of abortions to the women who they provide services to, which is of course directly contrary to the very reason that they exist. The opinion, written by Justice Thomas, stated that “California cannot co-opt the licensed facilities to deliver its message for it”.
In other words, states cannot force people to promote messages that conflict with their religious beliefs. This clearly overlaps with the homosexual marriage artistic services issue and pretty much doubles down on that same theme.
The U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday blocked a California law requiring clinics that counsel women against abortion to notify clients of the availability of abortions paid for by the state, ruling violated the free speech rights of these Christian-based facilities.
The justices endorsed the argument advanced by the clinics that the Democratic-backed law in the most populous U.S. state ran afoul of the Constitution's First Amendment guarantee of free speech by forcing them to advertise for abortion in violation of their beliefs.
U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions said, “We are pleased that today’s decision protects Americans' freedom of speech. Speakers should not be forced by their government to promote a message with which they disagree, and pro-life pregnancy centers in California should not be forced to advertise abortion and undermine the very reason they exist."
The title is a lie. They were not "forcing" centers to "push" abortion. It's a straight up lie. Per usual.
The Supreme Court disagrees and told the State of California - and any other state - that they cannot force organizations to promote messages (i.e., "Speech") that are contrary to their religious beliefs. In this case, that means that these centers cannot be forced to push abortion services.
Of course this reasoning also restricts states ability to force Christian merchants to provide services that are contrary to their religious convictions.
Leftists are showing their true colors lately with all their vitriolic childish feet stomping about SCOTUS rulings returning Constitutional rights to the people and taking the hammer out of big gov's hands.
