Did not have a welfare state then. We can no longer afford those poor huddled masses.

It'll be a thing when one of the parties makes it a campaign issue.

Until then, it's a silly talking point and nothing more.

In the same class as, "They're comin' fer my guns!"

I not only live on the border, but I have a couple dozen firearms. Open borders (we don't and won't have 'em and nobody's confiscating guns) aren't in the playbook.

This seems to be Trumplings' concept of what our borders should be.

That ain't happenin' either.

How is that possible when Republicans control every facet of American government? Do Republicans also want to outlaw opinions?

Take property, guns, gas chambers? See...here's the thing. Trump supporters look really silly trying to fearmonger about Democrats when Republicans control every branch of government. They control everything, so exactly how is any of this going to happen? Pretendland?

It's going to be very interesting the next two years watching Republicans try to gin up fear, anger and blame when they control everything in the country.

Anyway, when it doesn't happen, I'll give thanks to you and everyone else who were vigilant and brave enough to stop it.

If forced to guess, probably some mix of the following
*Social Darwinism (Primarily). This has many aspects:

- Hyper-capitalism of the pre-New Deal / Gilded Age type
- Kneejerk glorification of "natural" strength, power, intelligence, and wealth; i.e. "DIY on steroids".
- Narrow, intolerant, and frankly bigoted attitudes toward people who are noticeably "different" (whether due to race, orientation, social class, disabilities, the list is potentially endless, given people will look for reasons, no matter how trivial, to exclude and put down others).

closely related to the first heading is..
* Promoting a highly macho culture
- Foreign Relations. Probably strong "America First"-ism (if not through militaristic foreign aggression, then through tall and thick walls - metaphorical if not literal - of hostile isolationism of the "Posted: Keep Out" type)-- not just about immigrants, but about international obligations and "foreign", if not "communist" or "socialist", ideas
- Domestic Policy. Discussed under the first heading.

* A dollop or two of theocracy (abortion and LGBT mostly)

* Individual rights to the point of disregarding others.
- Freedom from one's responsibility to consider effects of your acts on others (IF you are strong, smart, brave, thick-skinned, and competent enough - largely). This easily slides into a justification for anarchy, nihilism, etc. -- effectively a WWE Battle Royal type of "society".

* Crude understandings of free will and personal responsibility
- Seemingly summed up by the old Nike "Just Do It!" slogan. Dismissing that some people's talents are simply more economically valuable than others. Also, failure to appreciate how social prestige (or lack thereof) can affect a person's outcomes (despite the inspirational but still only occasional 'successful immigrant / bootstraps story).

* Overall, seems to see war, professional sports, etc. as proper paradigm for seeing life in general. Highly inefficient, actually. A no-holds-barred competitive model diverts energies from actual productive to "turf wars", workplace politicking, and defending ones self from these attacks. This only creates distrust of other co-workers, lowers morale, and hamstrings company profitability.

That's my take of what a Fascist America would look like, covering both politics and culture. And we're already half-way there, jazza. And you're welcome.

Granted, BOTH are distasteful. I'm disgusted by both acts. Kathy Griffin later apologized, but I have yet to hear of any right-winger apologizing or calling out Trump rallygoers who had Clinton's head on a pike.
Hmm...

So do we have radical authoritarian nationalism - no
Dictatorial power - no
forcible suppression of opposition - no
control of industry and commerce - no

So you leftists are zero for 4 in connecting Trump to Fascist.

On the other hand, the Leftists want authoritarian control, dictatorial power, forcible suppression of opposition and control of industry and commerce.

I deal in reality, not made up Leftist lies.
That is a simplistic definition, and does not list many other possible features of fascism. I think you cherry picked that one because it suited your purpose. Look further and you will see many Trumpian traits in defining Fascism. Fascism manifests differently in its right and left forms.

Finally, any good fascist would attempt to disarm the population as priority #1, while Trump is of course guardian of the 2nd amendment.
Fascist schmasist. I've been observing the scene for a while now, I believe the CIA/LBJ/Other execution of JFK turned the democrats toward the communist road which they've been traveling down ever since.
Did Uncle Ho bribe LBJ to keep the futile war going? Simple school teacher Lyndon died a very wealthy man.
Why have Dems always taken the red side ever since?

What on earth makes you think Democrats are left wing?
