Abortion wasn't illegal in 1909. As the article in a round about way notes there really was not a way to really carry one out and people would try "home remedies" which really didn't work but they were not illegal.

Backstreet illegal abortionists operated throughout the UK before abortion we legalised in 1967.
A number of women died having so called backstreet abortions, and the methods and hygiene were not good. Gosnell is fairly similar to a backstreet abortionist, many of whom had no medical qualifications or proper medical equipment.
Such backstreet abortionists were common and easily found providing you had the money, however the practice was ended when regulated abortion was introduced in 1967.

Gosnell had medical qualifications and equipment.

Overwhelmingly the people who were performing abortions in 1966 were the same people who performed them in 1967. They just did them after hours and that has nothing to do with what I noted.

No they weren't.
Qualified Doctors would rarely risk carrying out abortions in Britain prior to them becoming legal.
Any Doctor caught carrying out an abortion would have gone to jail for a long time and would have been struck off as a doctor meaning they could never practice again. It also should be noted that doctors have always been relatively well paid and had no need to earn extra money by putting their entire careers and reputation on the line.
Most of the backstreet abortionists were not qualified in any way.

Doctors were performing abortions. Tell us, how many went to jail for a long time?

No Doctor was going to risk a life sentence in prison and being struck off for the medical register, so very few doctors.

Illegal abortion in the UK
Before the 1967 Abortion Act was passed most women who wanted to end their pregnancies would have had to resort to self-induced or backstreet abortions. Currently, abortion is still very severely restricted in Northern Ireland (and Ireland) and people who take illegal abortion medication risk life imprisonment according to the law.
They were called backstreet abortionists for a reason, and weee dramaticed in films such as Vera Drake and true events such as 10 Rillington Place, and the conditions were often appalling.

I've already addressed your link and noted why it is not to be taken seriously.
Alan Guttmacher in his book "Babies by Choice or by Chance" noted that pre RvW (my description as it was).......hospitals were .........
allowed to interpret and administer the abortion law of their respective states without supervision or interference from either the police, the courts or medical agencies."

The Law was very very strict in the UK and Ireland, and was enforced by the police, just as laws relating to homsexuality were enforced.
